2033

There is nothing new to see.

Repeat our sordid history-

Parrot.

Our never agains,

That never becames-

Like ventriloquist dummies.

On a pedal loop.

Children still reared on,

Cupcakes or Kalashnikovs

Depending on the fates.

The place.

Destined to death

Or resplendence.

Decadence or destitution.

Blood defines a destiny.

The land we charred fighting back

Doubling down flames-

With the venom

Of the betrayed.

Lashing out in white hot

Licking fury.

A phoenix from

the ashes of despair.

We amassed.

Ice cold heart-melting

Into a tsunami of grief,

For the guardian it should have had

But lost. Somewhere -

Between the search bar and the

Steam train.

We never even tried.

This beast we unleashed.

With a nonchalant,

Swipe left-

of the hand.

Stirred-

By relentless abuse.

Finally fighting back.

Yeah. Tried to be lighter but the faries just didn't want to play. Sorry! *Update. I just realised that title probably came from an anthology I taught for A level lang lit about 10 years ago called, 'Cupcakes and Kalashnikovs: 100 Years of the Best Journalism by Women'. It didn't register at all until I had a horible moment of ... 'shit' It must have been somewhere hanging out in my subconcious or whatever.
