I remember the day I lost you

That awful day in May

It has been some years now

I still remember the dream I had of you

Everything around me was white and there was a moving floor

Both living and dead passed by each other it seemed

I spotted you from far off

Standing with a woman I only knew from photographs

You passed by me deep in conversation and thought

I somehow found my way into the middle where the conveyor belts passed

I yelled your name as I ran to you

It took about a time or two

Your head spun around and you rushed to me

This woman watching me with eyes so much like Gran’s

You hugged me tightly

You told me how you had missed my hugs

That what happened was sudden but that it would be okay

You would be among friends and you wanted me to tell everyone that you loved them

I cried so hard into your chest

You said my hugs had always been one of the best

You kissed the top of my head and told me to go back

To watch over everyone if I could
