Through eyes that burn

We have witnessed a world

Implode-

A society find

The self-destruct button

And slam their hands

Upon its glowing red surface,

Knowing the events to follow,

But not caring-

Watching the transgressions

The collapse

The destruction

With eyes wide and wondering

As forests topple

And skyscrapers emerge in the wild,

As crime eliminates trust,

The cunning beast

Circling in the dead of night

Awaiting the moment

Your eyes are closed

And you’ve accepted sleep

In your most exhausted state-

It waits at the window ledge,

Paws perched

Nails at the ready,

It knows all weaknesses

And pulls from them

The strength it needs

To keep going-

The division has fueled it

And a tired nation

Sits idly by,

Feeding it.

Whew. That those of us who are exhausted, ignored by those who repeat the lies & care only for their own gain, actually feed it with our drained apathy--okay, so now there's one more burden to carry, one more sin to bear. Powerful.
