Brick

Walls

they said to build in silence

so I built a brick wall

around my soul.

took a hammer

nails between my teeth

and fastended my chest closed.

so the thrumming of my heart

no longer leads me

to where my brain knows not to go.

(You).

those brave enough to climb walls

know it is a futile task

not like I’d let them try.

the cement between my feelings

is all that holds my fragile bones

from collapsing in a heap.

the nails that bore into my chest

confine my thoughts

so I can stay silent

like they said.

i built in silence

but I’ve dug a hole

even bullets cannot penetrate.
