Blood Orange

A moment savored

There is something to

your color, your red fractals

under supple, soft skin

are more.

I peeled you.

You didn't fight too much.

You bled a little,

but that is your nature,

you are a blood orange.

You are citrus, and I made a mistake.

I bit into you

too quickly.

You were sour.

That might have been

all I tasted,

except for

your intriguing finish.

There was something there

that reminded me of flowers.

I went slower

in the devouring,

and there you were,

complicated,

in petaled sections,

the red heart

in an orange coat.
