Rustling leaves of autumn's breeze
cue our clocks to tick in tandem
drawing near to warmth;
collating certain company.
--
Failing light of the summer sky
colludes with our affections.
"Chance the frosted gales to come
preferably well accompanied."
--
Wearing leaves fade slowly,
endearment growing cold and coated;
iced over puddles arrive with the mist
falling further from the sun.
--
Sleeping nature longs in silence
Existential dread sets in.
"Alone again?" I hear you wonder,
"Another winter without them?"
--
Staying, waiting, listening, watching,
Unhappy, but too afraid to go.
After Autumns falling leaves
Come frozen wastelands full of snow.
Author's Note:
This is an addition to my recent exploration of love and what it is not. In, "Autumnal Cycle," I explore the biological pull towards one another as the months grow colder which is is not to be confused with love.
