At Twenty-Four....

At twenty-four, carrying disappointments and defects,

Worrying why I'm not deemed sufficient.

With tear-filled eyes, I questioned my mother.

Her eyes held absolute beauty.

In them, I glimpsed a baby nestled in a secure bubble,

Innocent and smiling at life.

If I can't meet the world's demands,

I'll eternally exist as her child,

Fulfilling her heart.

And I know what I must do....

Absolutely crushing and such an important part of development and finding one's one way. You write so gracefully. This poem feels instinctive and intensely understanding of this precise age and this precise reckoning. Beautiful piece.
