Anxiety Attack
—
A physiological state,
Not much in my control,
When triggered by the world around,
Sends shrapnel through my soul.
—
Trauma has left me terrified,
Scared of my own shadow,
Hypervigilent, and lonely,
Dreading my tomorrows.
—
Although sometimes irrational,
It's rooted in my past,
So the fear comes from a real place
To persist and last.
—
Not just "beyond my comfort zone,"
But created from a wound.
Asking me to ignore that pain:
Like breathing on the moon.
—
So, forgive me if I'm nervous.
I wish it wasn't so.
While I've known posttraumatic growth,
I still have far to go.
