All That Twinkles Are Not Toes

Tread Lightly

He casually stomped upon her feelings -

with no regard for footprints left behind.

Like he was privileged, blessed with silver twinkle toes.

Pouring on her- his best insults, over all her injuries,

like gravy - slathered over last night’s mashed potatoes.

*

The next day he sent flowers,

making sure that they were roses.

Displaying his apology, with card enclosed.

He loved appearing blameless - under everybody’s noses,

keeping squeaky clean his reputable twinkle toes.

Even after several blows,

somehow, she still was caught off guard.

How she could be so naïve, no-one really knows.

Everybody saw it coming,

like he was wearing silver bells,

on the tips of every single twinkle toe.

*

But this time, things were different -

He saw her staring out the window,

he waved and smiled so widely; his bright blue eyes were closed.

He never saw it coming, the shingles falling off the scaffold,

there was nothing left, except his twinkle toes.

I liked your take on this! Great work :)

  • Oh wow brutal - the shingles falling off the scaffold - looks like this is a case of what comes around goes around. Good job Kelli - creatively dark.
