A Winter’s Dance

haiku for you

A thousand dancing

figures, paused, hands lifting up.

On top sawtooth ridge.

“A Winter’s Dance” evokes the image of mountains being alive, and yet solidly in place, for that’s the earth, always in motion.

We want to dance, feel alive, especially as the ground cools below our feet during winter time. Let’s stay awake, listening to the music of the earth, and remembering how to be one with it.

Let’s close our eyes, breath in the cool air, yes, we are there, standing on top of a mountain. Start swaying side to side like a cedar, branches fluttering in the warm wind blowing in before a blizzard that covers the granite outcroppings. A crisp fresh scent. The first few snow flakes blend into the smooth gray rocks. Breathe, again. Place our hands over our hearts. Smile. Lips part, letting out a sigh. Comfort. Our bodies sway back-and-forth — a meditation of the mountain wherever we stand.

Open our eyes. See, again. For you, A Winter’s Dance in

A thousand dancing

figures, paused, hands lifting up.

On top sawtooth ridge.
