A Winter Day, Today, My Day

An Alternative to Lives Spent Raging at the Screen

“A Winter Day, Today, My Day”

Blankets of wool and rich quilt, heavy,

Frosty cold morning, oatmeal and tea.

A loving wife: warm, dark, small, and kind,

Sky full of stars, not yet the Sun shine.

Work greet day, I greet the daily work,

Ready to go, move slow but not shirk.

Silver coin shines, of toil, sweat, tears…

Blood of life flows, same truth all these years.

Earthen floor’d shop, make a copper cup,

The name matters, and the number a’top.

Time to teach school, more soon I am taught,

Go forth I do, knowing much of naught.

Learn for life, weekly newsletter wrote,

Exercise, diet, bricks and posts tote.

Faith study, faith written, faith carried.

Big black stud, small brown mare, not hurried...

Training trainers, sharing failures, success!

Son on the trail, daughter to the test.

Homestead planning… always lumber list!

Percy the cat, perhaps a Grail quest?

He likes tummy rubs, fluffy and grey.

Reassure old dog, dismay? Okay!

Philosophy, math... ancient wise word,

Science, music… great wisdom books stir.

Split and stack wood for the warming fire...

Zoom! Sing! Do the brown birds never tire?!?!

Deer in the meadow, above the stream,

Eagle in the hill cedar, wing’d dream.

Ravens overhead, black from the blue,

Mallards stroll by for grain, chickens, too.

Hogs roll and tumble, kid goats stumble,

T’was a winter day, sunny, humble.
