A Very Short Story of Nearly (but not quite) Everything
Just talking about Life, the Universe and Everything
Archimedes taught us maths and physics and engineering, which still holds up today
Babel is a biblical myth but becomes reality as the centuries pass
Caesars came and went, fortifying an empire that grew until its descent
Dinosaurs weren't recognised until recently though, mainly by the findings of a lass
Ephesus and Syracuse of old live on - in farce - in Shakespeare's play
Frankly, many kings and what they did almost seems a farce!
Got to say, of Henry VIII and James I, neither were a gent,
Having looked at worldwide royalty, there haven't been many that much better!
I did my BA in International Relations: 5 years of history, philosophy and world religions was time well spent,
Just imagine how I feel about conspiracy theorists talking out their ass!
Khufu built the Great Pyramid of Giza, yet now some say it was aliens - oh I vent!
Lyceums thrived and brought up scholars, showing education can be a trendsetter,
Mexico saw me born and raised, and lived in Italy as well as in the States
Now, after 1/4 of my life in the UK, I can see the similarities, what works well together,
Or more to the point, why dogma took over each country, based on their history and present
Possibly a good dissertation topic, to be presented with red wine and cheddar,
Q would applaud! (The one from Star Trek, not the right-wing one who created lots of inmates)
Rationality needs to be brought back, anybody got a plan?
Something has to happen, before more of us are in dire straits
Together we can make it work - hopefully - if we come to an agreement we can all enter
Unfortunately the Social Contract has been breached, but we can't leave it up to the fates
Voltaire and Marx and Darwin would all agree, we've got to do everything we can
We're socio-political beings, we need each other to grow
Xerxes made the big screen, sure thing, but people need to start wondering why all those big empires went down like damn
You know the answer: power went to people's heads, much like many governments today only help their mates
Zig-zaging through history lessons, plus ethics, philosophy and art, might hopefully help with that!
