A to Z of losing you

A to Z of losing you

Affectionate sentiments, scattered on the floor

Blue fabric stretched on a couch, where we used to sit

Casual feelings, displayed in pictures hung on walls

Deepwater, flooding from you, threatening to drown my thoughts

Enamored feelings, swirling in the refrigerator light

Fumbled car keys, left discarded on a table

Glacier size questions, playing trouble in my mind

Hidden truths, dancing lonely in the dark

Innocent misgivings, fading, in the absence, of how time flies

Jealous winds, blowing through strands of hair, like fingers

Kindness, and other ulterior motives, floating in air-conditioned air

Love's current, flowing in and out of, where we used to be

Mysteries weaving, unsolved in the rhythm, of a confused heart

Naked thoughts running wild, saying come back home

Open wounds, bleeding with images of you, leaving ink stains on my skin

Pretending, a game we loved playing, every time we wanted to lose

Quiet lies, spreading from dreams, of fairy tales, spun from our lips

Rumors, falling like raindrops, landing in puddles, we spilled

Shadows haunting the night, coming from storms, we brewed

Tomorrows pass, without you asking me, and I can't keep waiting

Unicorns don't exist, and my beloved neither do we, anymore

Valentines, February loves, Unintended consequences

Whispers still lace my soul, with how you signed your texts with little

X's and never O's, reminding me, that you were always holding back

Your eyes used to stare with mine, at a sky, you took me into once, where

Zodiac symbols painted a future, in the stars, we were never going to find

Gorgeous, I can't pick a best line. These are definite contenders though, "Love's current, flowing in and out of, where we used to be/Mysteries weaving, unsolved in the rhythm, of a confused heart"

So heartfelt and cleverly done. I love the image of feelings in the refrigerator light, really captured the essance of loss 🤍 The coldness the seeking of comfort. 🤍

You can feel the heartache of the loss. It flows so well too. Nice job

This pulls at the heartstrings and bring depth to pain once felt. The best words are the ones experienced. It is really your soul speaking from a dark place, trying to seek the light. Yet, the light comes, be sure the heart is ready to receive it. Wonderful poetry.

  • "Unicorns don't exist and my beloved, neither do we." Loves this line the most! Your poem was so heartbreaking and emotional! I freaking loved it!

  • Returning to those times & places we know we shouldn't, even if only in our minds, because they hurt so much. Yet how can we not? Is that not what love does?

I love how each of the first, I don't know, 75%ish of lines has a verb, passive and active, how that underscores the doing of losing.

Oh, this was wonderful! I'm just sorry that your hurtful experience created such a beautiful poem. You have a winner in this one!

  • Valentines, February loves, Unintended consequences Whispers still lace my soul, with how you signed your texts with little OH MY HEART...this really hit close. Great job (X's and never O's, reminding me, that you were always holding back Your eyes used to stare with mine, at a sky, you took me into once, where Zodiac symbols painted a future, in the stars, we were never going to find)
