A Sovereign Light
A poem of thanks for our lighthouses.
Standing proud and strong,
She's a resilient pillar.
Her light stretches far and long
Like a welcome home signaller.
~
Two hundred years ago
Human hands built this queen
To guide and light the way so
That we'd be safe in her beam.
~
Her crown is bright,
The jewels a life-saving show
Across the inky night sky,
Her gown of white softly glows.
~
Her friend the moon
Casts a supportive glow,
But all too soon,
She wanes, unable to show.
~
Yet, our sovereign protector
Remains the month long.
We enjoy the blessing where
Her warning light triumphs, is strong.
~
Thank you, bright lady,
For your night-time blessing.
You take the night-shift
While your subjects are resting.
I wrote this in particular tribute to the beautiful lighthouse in my hometown of Donaghadee in Co Down.
About the Creator
Deborah Robinson
I'm new to the 'writing for real' scene. Previously, I've kept my poetry and writing under wraps in a fancy notebook, but now I've decided to give it a proper go!
I hope you enjoy my work.
Thanks, Deborah.
