A song of hope in downcast

An uplifting piece

The storm came upon me, all was lost in its wake,

The earth had torn asunder and the mountains shuttered at the quake,

My livelihood was taken, I lost my friends and kin,

Through no fault of my own, nor as a punishment for my sin,

Desolation is my dominion, destitution is my portion,

A dessert is my home now without consent to my own notion,

Dwelling amidst proud mockers, the jackals come to boast,

The vineyards yield no grapes, a cup of wrath to toast,

The nightfall has its terrors, the creatures of the night,

The quenching of the fire, with no hope in sight,

I could easily despair, to yield and anger and to fret,

But despite such heavy losses, I will not given in yet…

A song lay in my heart that only tribulations could bestow,

The hopes of my aspirations were a seed to surely grow,

Though I dwell in dire poverty, though I may be surrounded by sickness and blight,

I muster courage to push forward, and battle with all my might!
