I stretch the sheets across our bed, a single strand
Lost in the sea of creases and fresh linen
You blend in so seamlessly, golden and soft,
glittering in the slim light that filters through the tapestry
I hold you in between my fingers, you hang down so gently
I am afraid of breaking you
I find you everywhere
Tucked inside the folded-up socks,
embedded in the stitching of my favorite dress
I pry you out of it, but you snap in half
Too brittle to hold on
But you are still shining
You leave parts of yourself everywhere for me to find
Stuck to the side of the shower wall
Shedding all over the bathroom sink
I even find you within myself, anchored deep
All I can do is sweep you away
A single strand that will never allow me to forget
