A Place Above the Clouds
A poem for all my weary, yet ever-driven travelers out there on the path...

I'd like to share with you my newest poem, which I finished last week, but wanted to spend some time away from before sharing - for that “fresh eyes” effect. I'm sure you can relate...
It is dedicated to all the weary travelers out there - which many of us are these days, for various reasons. Continuing to wander on, as much as the ongoing pandemic will allow us to. It’s also written from a spiritual place of forward-focused hope and passionate curiosity - that drive to consistently seek and learn more, even though the static proves deafeningly loud on a regular basis. This drive will keep us on the path of living fervently and un-apologetically for others. To all my travelers out there, navigating the path of Equity & Liberty for All: This one is for You. For Us.
You are appreciated. ONWARD...

A Place Above the Clouds
There’s a place above the clouds
where everything looks like freedom
Freedom ringing clear
As far as the ear can hear
As freedom dances on the breeze
It wraps you sweetly in its peaceful squeeze
A peace you have not known since your creation
Your time in the womb
Heartbeat finding its tune for the first time
Before you laid your newborn eyes on any thing
A first home, housing innocence in its purest form -
Before everything blows up.
So now I cast my eyes upon
This place above the clouds
Mouth agape, gazing at its innocent glory
Longing once again for that sublime quiet
The steady breathing hum
Of unconditional belonging
Churning forth brand new life
Crying fiercely for freedom
All the while, this place above the clouds
Beckons us back home
It promises to love us as we are
To teach us how to love ourselves again
Love one an-Other again,
Unconditionally.
See, This home is where the heart is
Cause it ain’t down here no more
No, not when we’d rather hurt
One an-Other than be Free
No, this ain’t a piece about Heaven—
Far from it
But we ain’t that far from it
This place above the clouds
And yet we still need machines to get there
Cause we’ve forgotten how to fly
No this flightless bird will never change
But Don’t you take these broken wings from me
I will keep em, if you please...
to remember what I used to be
Before a true love dreamed up me
Before the construct of time began
Humanity’s first footsteps on the sand
When each and every one of us
Was Free... For a time
But, back before this time construct began
We were free to form stars
Not construct prison bars
And build border walls -
The better to tear you down with,
My dear
Oh dear god
Let us build stars again
BE stars again
In this place above the clouds
Where each and every one of Us is
Free. ✨
