A Lien on My Heart
The Best Thing I'd Show You
Stand on the beachhead,
I see your light,
Low o’er the water,
Darkest of night.
Hidden in shadows,
Hiding from sight.
Quiet your sojourn,
Silent your flight.
———Я———
Wounded your vessel,
Limping to shore.
What would you risk for
New worlds to explore?
Cast from the heavens,
Delivered with scorn.
“Danger, Will Robinson!”
Why so forlorn?
———Я———
I know you are broken,
Your eyes are cast down,
Looking for something,
Lost on the ground.
Fearing the hazards,
You might be found.
Beaten, defenseless,
Don’t make a sound.
———Я———
A lie nasty told,
A lien on my heart.
Equalie, never!
We’re lightyears apart.
You’re…,
…alien,
…mammalian,
…reptilian,
…crustacean,
…amphibian,
…inter-galactacian…!
…
Truth is,
I don’t know what you are,
But I’m willing to start.
———Я———
I can see that you’re hungry,
Hurting & sore.
Lost & forgotten,
Perhaps even more.
What can I offer?
I step to the fore.
Greeting the other
On this distant shore.
———Я———
What can I show you?
Our world is a mess.
The wonders you’ve seen,
This likely is less.
There’s one thing, however,
I’d like to confess.
The best thing I’d show you
Is tender kindness.

Since no one seems to have stumbled across the Easter Eggs I've hidden in here, I thought perhaps I should offer a clue in the form of a question: How many aliens did you notice in this poem?
