A Dream

I dreamed a dream much bigger than me

I dreamed a dream much bigger than me

I caged the demons I inherited, left them to starve in dark and dusty corners

Swept them clean with the clutter in my head

I ascended from the rubble

A home decomposed, broken but never whole

I rewrote my own novel

A world created with images in storybooks

That burned as quickly as the fibers in which they breed

Each fall breaking off pieces

Of the person, I thought I had to be

Of the person, the world said I should be

Of the person, everyone needed me to be

Until I saw myself reflected in your eyes and saw a stranger I could never be

So, I dreamed a dream much bigger than me

Built from your reality, filled with all the possibility you believed existed in me

A place not meant for me

Where you watch the stars from above

And hold a strength that quiets the unrest

I dreamed a dream much bigger than me

Because I dreamed it for you

So, your dreams could be a success far beyond me
