The anguish, the dread, this utter confusion,
Turn me around once and walk away,
The hopelessness, the fear, the impatience,
Yes I’m lost once again, I hear you say.
***
A constant struggle in my every day life,
Where have I been?
Or more importantly, where am I going?
You’ve lost your way once more Colleen.
***
Took a right when it should have been a left,
Strangeness knows no bounds,
Wearily wandering through life’s greatest maze,
Simply by turning me around.
***
Panic stricken thoughts crashing around my mind,
Reversing my steps only to find the unfamiliarity,
Where should I be?
Someone help me find some clarity!
***
Please, I’m struggling to find my way,
Reversing, back tracking, taking another chance,
Systematically working my way down every path,
But nothing is familiar at a glance.
***
Miles travelled through suburban tracks,
Like wandering through a desert storm,
Doorways confusing, casting me out upon unknown planes,
Sadly, this is my everyday norm.
***
Dashing, running, attempting to escape my own personal matrix,
Buildings turned or better yet totally removed,
Dined and wined in a restaurant that doesn’t exist,
My sense of direction has never improved.
***
Turning, twisting, the tears cascading,
Oh where, oh where, have I parked my blasted car?
I’m certain I’ve teleported into a totally different shopping centre,
As I’ve walked and walked for miles, it never should be this far!
***
Lost, perpetually lost,
Surrounded by the vastness of the universe,
Every trip a gambol, an adventure, so hit and miss,
Having no sense of direction is a bleeding curse!

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
