A "New Year, New You" Motivational Essay

It never seems to fail how everyone at this time of year has the greatest and sudden urge to reimagine themselves. I find the ‘new year's resolutions a bit old and tiring, but not without its deeper purpose and not without an end goal. I say this because these resolutions are made for the new year but what is stopping the change from taking place the very second you desire it? The best guess for not enacting the change immediately is that you don’t truly see yourself being that different version of yourself. No one realizes that to grow as a person in any way will need to break down the current version of themselves. Everyone has different ways of elevating in life but the main ones should be visualizations, realizing your shortcomings, and admitting your reason for wanting to change. Implementing these aspects into your life TODAY can create a trusty foundation for the improved version of yourself.

The first one is the easiest. Visualizations are like self-aware dreaming. As one knows, dreams come from the deepest parts of our mind and most of the time we have no clue as to what we’re dreaming about. Yet some videos and podcasts will guide your mind, breathing, and thoughts toward the version of yourself you desire most. It’s like dreaming because you're thinking of yourself living a life you know deep down you want to be living. Purposefully, you are imagining yourself living the life you desire. Visualizing the person you want to be, where that person is, or how that person is thinking is combating the current version of you without feeling unworthy. This is a good exercise and habit because it allows people to be fully aware of what they want and then suddenly the weight of not being that version of yourself lightens. Visualizing will subtly break down the old version of yourself and make a safe space in your mind to want something more.

Speaking of visuals, how do you see yourself? I asked myself the same question and truthfully, it's quite sad. No, I am not a bad person but the habits I have/had is the main reason why getting to my desired version of myself seems so hard. If you have asked yourself this question and haven’t come up with anything…. Ask someone for an honest answer. If you want to savor your feelings, write down your answers honestly. No one is perfect and the shortcomings you may have could be intangible. So to grow as your desired version of yourself, break apart the things you know that can change you for the better. Admit to yourself that you need help\work with your traits, mindset, and habits can feel way better than your mom or stranger telling you. To learn and grow the foundation of that new version needs to be rebuilt, starting with knowing where you lack.

This last one is a hard concept to grasp because letting go of old habits and mindsets is hard. It was a constant struggle for me to keep track of why I couldn’t lose focus on who I wanted to become. But the ability to always return to the idea that your actions will benefit what you find important in the future is powerful. The thing about motivations is that they can be anything or anyone. That fact sinks into your future self because wanting more money, learning to be consistent, or wanting to take care of your family are all realities you want to change now. This aspect isn’t so much breaking down your current self but more so uplifting your future self.

The new year is approaching and it's the perfect time to create a routine or vision board to manifest the new you that is meant to be.
