Robyn Rihanna Fenty, known simply as Rihanna, is one of the most successful and influential musicians of our time. But before she became a global superstar, she had a humble upbringing on the Caribbean island of Barbados.

Rihanna was born on February 20, 1988, in Saint Michael, Barbados, to Monica Braithwaite, a retired accountant, and Ronald Fenty, a warehouse supervisor. She was the oldest of three children and had a happy childhood growing up in a modest home.

As a child, Rihanna was known for her beautiful singing voice and often performed at school talent shows and in church choir. But it wasn't until she was discovered by music producer Evan Rogers in 2003 that her career began to take off.

Rogers was in Barbados on vacation when he was introduced to Rihanna through a mutual friend. He was immediately impressed by her talent and invited her to audition for his production company back in the United States. Rihanna, who was just 15 years old at the time, jumped at the opportunity and traveled to New York City with her mother.

After auditioning for Rogers and his partner Carl Sturken, Rihanna was signed to their production company, Syndicated Rhythm Productions. They began working on her demo tapes, which they sent out to various record labels in the hopes of securing her a record deal.

In 2005, Rihanna caught the attention of Jay-Z, the president of Def Jam Recordings, who signed her to the label. She moved to the United States and began recording her debut album, "Music of the Sun."

"Music of the Sun" was released in August 2005 and received mixed reviews from critics. However, it was a commercial success, reaching No. 10 on the Billboard 200 chart and selling over two million copies worldwide. The lead single, "Pon de Replay," became a hit and catapulted Rihanna to stardom.

The following year, Rihanna released her second album, "A Girl Like Me." The album was more successful than her debut, reaching No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart and selling over three million copies worldwide. The lead single, "SOS," became her first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

But it wasn't until the release of her third album, "Good Girl Gone Bad," in 2007 that Rihanna became a household name. The album was a critical and commercial success, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and selling over nine million copies worldwide. The lead single, "Umbrella," became one of the biggest hits of the year and earned Rihanna her first Grammy Award.

Since then, Rihanna has continued to dominate the music industry with hit albums and singles, including "Rated R," "Loud," "Talk That Talk," "Unapologetic," "Anti," and more. She has sold over 250 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time.

But Rihanna's influence extends beyond music. She is also a successful entrepreneur, with her own beauty and fashion brands. In 2017, she launched Fenty Beauty, a makeup line that revolutionized the beauty industry by offering a wide range of shades for all skin tones. The brand has been a massive success and has earned Rihanna a spot on Time's 100 Most Influential People list.

Rihanna has also been a vocal advocate for various social and political issues. She has used her platform to raise awareness about domestic violence, mental health, and police brutality. In 2017, she was awarded the Harvard University Humanitarian of the Year award for her philanthropic work.

Despite her massive success, Rihanna has remained grounded and true to her roots. She continues to give back to her community
