Once Upon a Time

Finding Heaven

Once upon a time, there was a lady that died from breaking her own heart. She was asleep for a long while in the after, dreaming about the very life she left behind her. She dreamt of her life, as if she was reliving every moment again. She relived all of her youth, and boy was it exciting. She smiled, and laughed. She ran, and played. She made friends and even had to fight once or twice. She had darker moments from her youth creep into her dream and threaten to turn it to a nightmare. But she held onto her child like consciousness in her death sleep. And was always able to forgive and move on with grace.

But as her dream progressed into the teen and young adult years, something seemed to creep into her mind. Something selfish and needy. It caused a great deal of harm. This duality she had to experience was tearing her apart from the inside but blaming it on the outside. She began to obtain addictions to many things. She began to lose the childlike consciousness. She had family and friends. She had lovers. She eventually had children of her own.

But still as the years progressed she became older and more cynical in her mind. So much so that the soul that she was destined to be with would suffer at the invisible hands of her darkness. Her love turned to hate and she cursed the day that they met. She swore that she hated him. She never wanted to see him again.... she watched as he shattered into a thousand pieces and she reached out to catch all of the pieces of him before they could hit the ground.

They instead floated away from her. As she watched the pieces of her love drift away as if it were a feather on the wind she noticed there was to much. That's when she began to recognize that in the flurry of brokenness was every loved one, every friend or family or child she had ever adored was in this flock of shards flying into the stars above her. She reached up with both her hands and all her might to grab some tiny pieces to save, and she gasped, realizing that her very own hands were withering away, becoming a lot of shattered nothing to fly into the starry sky with the rest of her memories.

She awoke. But not with a start. She was calm. And a deep throbbing ache seemed to be all around and inside of her. She let go. The tears came in swarms down her face. And she let the hot red emotions burn her to her very soul. She knew this ache would never go away.

Just when she began to think she was alone for good, a soft voice spoke to her. "Hello, lovely soul." This voice had no gender. This voice was the very essence of love. The thing that we all try to mirror and fall short. This voice had what we longed for. This voice was also her... from a very distant time and space. Yet this voice knew the ultimate God. "Hello," she answered. Her voice was now shaking. Who wouldn't? she thought. I'm in the presence of greatness.

The voice had only one question but in that one question she felt all the love and acceptance she could ever want. She knew she was welcomed here. She knew she could stay forever and be at peace. The voice asked her, "What do you want?" A million things flooded her head. She knew almost all the answers to any question she'd ever asked. But then the memories of heartache came to her. Again she was crippled by the pain she had caused and pain done to her. She let go. The tears came and threatened to flood all of time and space. And she whispered, "I wish we could just forget all the pain. Forget all the trauma. And try to love each other again."
