Learn how to manage your anxiety so that you can be more productive and effective. Learn to be more present in order to feel more peaceful, in control, and happy. Because the moment is all we have, we have complete control over every precious second and Nano-second. That, however, only occurs when we mentally dwell in the present moment and exercise control over our thoughts and feelings.

Get into the practice of asking oneself, “How am I feeling?” several times during the day, regardless of what is going on. Hopefully, the response will be that everything is fine.

The goal of this investigation is to bring you back to the present moment. When you ask this question, I'm guessing you're trying to bring yourself back to the present from thinking about the past or future—worrying about that pay raise meeting with your boss, feeling nervous about a blind date or upcoming presentation, or ruminating about the fight you had with your partner earlier in the day or the fender-bender you had last week.

The fact is that we are usually in good emotional shape. Most of the time, life isn't fascinating or great, but it's also not the pits. We can always find methods to feel better, even if we're performing things we don't like or aren't feeling well. We do this by simply focusing on what is going well for us.

Even if the presentation or date went badly, you may still have a good time now if you allow it. Although your morning squabble with your husband or last week's fender bender may have long-term consequences, your life is most likely flowing well right now.

Anxiety stems from a fear of physical or mental harm to oneself. Perception is the crucial word here. If you're going to a party you've been looking forward to for a long time, you'll feel differently than if your spouse is dragging you to the same party you've been dreading for months.

Anxiety is an adaptive inner emotion that aids in our survival. It serves no other purpose. It keeps us alive and thriving when it functions properly. When it doesn't, it pulls us psychologically and physically away from the present.

We believe that if we worry enough, we will be able to shape the future to our liking when we arrive. It has a mystical time travel appeal that goes something like this: If I think about something sufficiently now, everything will be alright when the time arrives for it to happen.

You try to anticipate everything that could possibly go wrong ahead of time—on your wedding day, when starting a new job, at the annual holiday party you throw for your employees, on a date with someone you like, driving to another state to visit a friend—so that nothing goes wrong when you get there.

We know in the back of our minds that we can't control life, so we rely on anxiety to help us succeed. We give anxiety unjustified power, give our future ideas a life of their own, and feel they have the capacity to change our fate for the better.

We worry because it makes us feel better than doing nothing and feeling powerless, futile, or depressed. We worry to alleviate the dreadful sense that things don't and won't always go our way. But most of us are concerned because it has become a habit, and we are unaware that it is unneeded, unhealthy, and time-consuming. Thus, do make anxiety a home in your heart as it will hinder your success.
