FRESH START!
The end of last year, I impulsively decided a big change in my life. I booked a flight and gave myself just enough time to notify my real estate agent that I would be leaving in 2 weeks' time. I decided to leave the hustle of Sydney and moved to a quiet town around Launceston. I took a leap of faith with the minimal saving I had left (thanks to joblessness during Covid). A very fresh start indeed!

5 Reasons To Take A Break From Social Media.
On January 25th I made the decision, (that I had been building up to for a while,) to deactivate my Facebook and Instagram accounts. I came to finally make this decision partly out of frustration. I was struggling to finish reading an academic paper for my cultural studies class and had temporarily given up. My focus was shot. I went out for a walk with my dog in the cold winters evening to get some fresh air and clear my head. I knew why I was having trouble focusing. It is hard to focus with all the mental noise that follows a few hours of scrolling through social media feeds. On that walk I made a promise to myself to stay off all social media until May 1st. I arrived home and immediately went on and deactivated my accounts.

2021: The Year of Milestones
Hi, my name is Bernadette. As I type this, I am currently three days overdue with my first child and am patiently waiting for her to make her grand entrance into this world. Being pregnant throughout most of 2020 has allowed me to set out goals for myself as an individual, a wife and now a soon-to-be mother.

2021 is Yours.
New Year's Resolutions. Fitness, travel, that new hair curler wand, babies, no babies, vegan diets, Church - there's nothing wrong with them, but who told you to choose which resolution? We've been living in a time where we are pressured and guided to the point where we aren't aware of how to better ourselves outside the realms of social media, news media, and popular trends. In 2020 and recent years, we have allowed ourselves as individuals to be increasingly limited. 2021, especially after the dreadful 2020, is the year to take hold of what you believe makes you a better person - before the outer influences made you forget.

Reflect n Correct
As I begin to tackle this new year I am going to set three resolutions for myself of things that I will achieve this year. I am a very confident, dedicated and determined individual and I believe that I can conquer anything and everything that I dedicate myself to. In the year of 2020 I was faced with a numerous amount of obstacles that challenged my strength and my perseverance. Despite the difficulties that I encountered last year I will not allow myself to be set back this year as I will continue to look forward rather than looking backwards. In spite of this it is important for me to reflect on the choices and decisions that I have made and use it as inspiration to better myself. When I participate in reflective practices I establish a foundation for myself which allows me to heal, learn and grow from my past. With that being said, going into the new year with a fresh start will help me achieve the goals that I have set for myself this year. The three goals that I have set for myself this year are: “to improve my mental health”, “to start and build my eyelash business” and “to live a healthier lifestyle”. By setting these goals I am giving myself long term vision and short term motivation. Vision is essential for my long term progress as it is demonstrating the results in which I am looking to obtain in the future. On the other hand motivation is needed to align my sense of focusedness which will pave the way for my upcoming successes as I make my way to achieve my goals. The very first goal that I have set for myself to accomplish this year is to improve my mental health. Mental health is the psychological, emotional and social well being of an individual. Mental health affects my personal life in various ways depending on the quality of my mental state which will impact the ways I think, feel and act. Due to the coronavirus disease pandemic I have been in my house since school first closed in March of 2020. Being in my house at such a frequent rate had various negative effects on my mental health as this was something I was not used to doing prior to this epidemic. As a result, throughout the year of 2020 I experienced many days of hypersomnia (oversleeping) and I often felt anxious as I worried about my family members who were working as front line workers. It is now 2021 and I am determined to improve my mental health. To achieve this I will dedicate a significant amount of time each day to complete tasks that bring me happiness, joy and relief. This can be done through daily affirmations, meditation, digital detoxing and many more things. It is important that I stay consistent with these daily tasks as it will improve the overall well being of my mental health. The second goal that I have set for myself this year is to start up and build my eyelash business. Starting my own business has been a goal of mine that I wanted to pursue for many years now. I have always been interested in various things pertaining to the beauty industry and I have always enjoyed making people feel more confident within themselves. Even though fear held me back last year and prevented me from starting my business I have grown to realize that I am far too passionate to be held back once again this year. I am much more confident now and I am ready to take on, face and overcome any challenges that are thrown my way. I will create social, financial and personal small term business goals for myself that are realistic and will help to build and grow my eyelash business moving forward. The third goal that I have set for myself for this year is to live a healthier lifestyle. I am at that point in my life where the decisions I am making now surrounding food and nutrition will affect my health in the future. It is very important that I set a routine for myself so that I am encouraged to stay consistent within my plans of making this goal achievable. The first step that I am going to take towards living a healthier lifestyle is to consume healthier foods. Taking in a diet that is low in fat and high in proteins is essential for my health as it protects me against chronic noncommunicable diseases like diabetes and/or cancer. The second step that will bring me closer towards living a healthier lifestyle is meal planning. Meal planning is the practice of pre planning and organizing your foods for the upcoming days, weeks or months. Planning my foods ahead of time will allow me to: determine how balanced each meal will be (nutritionally), determine the portion sizes for each of my food items and ensure that I am intaking the right amount of calories. The last step I will take towards living a healthier lifestyle is incorporating exercise into my daily life. Exercising for a short period of time each day will help me to manage and maintain a healthy weight which is important for my overall health. In conclusion, during the year of 2020 I experienced many internal and external conflicts which challenged my strength and perseverance. As a result of this I was set back by the many things that I wanted to accomplish. Moving forward as it is now 2021 I will accomplish the three goals that I have set for myself. Which are: “to improve my mental health”, “to start and build my eyelash business” and “to live a healthier lifestyle.” With the level of confidence, dedication and determination that I possess I am positive that I will attain these goals.

Moving forward towards a better future.
My resolution is to work on me and to work on letting go of the past. I spent all of 2020 upset and down. Not just because of the pandemic which of course is not great, but my life blew up. I watched my life crumble in a little as a swipe of a text message. I found out my husband was cheating. Not just cheating but had been seeing my friend and coworker. Someone I had trusted for many years. They had been seeing each other for over two years. My life fell apart. I was in a mixture of pain and hurt. After working through everything and trying to salvage my life I have vowed for 2021 I will focus on the future and what is best for me and my children. I still must work with the woman every day. I have worked through trying to work with her. I have also continued to try to work on my marriage and making it work for my children. The hurt and pain was hard at first. I drowned in pain and continued to move everyday in a zombie state. I was angry that someone I trusted could hurt and betray me. I am working on myself. I had to take a step back and decide what I truly wanted and what I could live with. In doing that I realized I had to not care what other people thought of me or my choices. If I did care than I would be miserable living my life for them. I wanted my family. I felt it was unfair that because two people made an awful choice that I had to lose everything. Why should I be hurt, why should I lose everything. So, I made the choice to continue my marriage and to continue my family. It has not been easy. I live everyday trying to move forward. Moving forward through the pain is what was the hardest. I wanted to hold a grudge and let the anger simmer, but I also knew that wasn’t healthy and I was getting nowhere with that. I have three kids who depend on me. They feel my pain and watch me for guidance on how to feel. So, with that said I decided to move forward. I have now moved my family to a better and bigger home with the help of a friend. I am living everyday with a positive attitude. My kids are finally getting to go to school, so we are getting back into a routine. I am letting go of the anger towards my co worker and continue to smile through it. She will answer for what she has done someday. Karma is a powerful thing. I am also working on my health. I have stopped smoking after 25 years. This is hard and taken more will power than I believed but I can do this. My coworkers have decided to do a weight loss challenge. I am going to work on all these things. I know I will fail sometimes but I will always pick myself up again and go on. I have learned so much about myself in this process and will always remember I will not succumb to pain and failure but will thrive in it.

Turning The Impossible Into The Possible
In order to achieve a goal we desire, the first thing we must do is believe. We must have the belief that the goal is practical to achieve, not impossible, and we must have the belief in ourselves, that we have actually the ability to achieve it. Without either of these beliefs, we are basically wasting our time in pursuing the goal in the first place. The simple reason is that if we don't have the belief, at the first sign of failure, adversity, setback, rejection, or challenge, along the journey, we will immediately be filled with doubt, and doubt only ever leads to resignation. The truth is, failure, adversity, setback, rejection, and challenge, are all a part of the journey to success. Only an incredibly small percentage of individuals have ever achieved success without facing some hardships and adversities along the way. It's why belief is so important, because we are going to be struck down and tested greatly, over and over again, before we ever reach our goal, and without maintaining that belief in ourselves, we will fail to get back up. For most people, that's exactly where there journey ends. They give up, because they lack that positivity, belief, and resilience. What people don't realize is that failures are never the end of the road, they are merely an indication that certain actions aren't working, nothing more. It's just a matter of changing what's not working, and looking at what you need to do more of, what you need to do less of, what you need to different, and what you need to do better, moving forward. The greatest minds and inventors failed time and time again, spending many years trying to discover the winning formula to success in fact, but they not only maintained belief in themselves, they possessed a quality that more of us need to inherit, and that is determination.

Invest in Yourself
There’s nothing like creating a resolution at the beginning of the year and then, realizing at the end of the year, that the resolutions previously created, haven’t been conquered. Disappointment seeps and seethes this deepening dark abyss of failure that the resolution had not been followed through. Hence, these resolutions are being rebranded as goals.

It's A New Year And I'm The Same Me.
The new year is here again and I'm still the same today as I was yesterday. Yeah, I've grown in some ways but not enough in the ways that actually matter. Like most people, when creating my new years resolution I stick to it for about a week or two and then it magically disappears into thin air like it never existed; Or if I designated an accountability person I hide from them until I feel its safe to show my face without them questioning my so called resolutions.

Finding the way
“Surely it can’t be”, thought Alicia as she held her breath whilst scratching off the last bit of silver to reveal the picture underneath. She blinked, looked again, then laughed bitterly as she tossed the scratchie onto the table. “Just my luck” she said out loud, grabbing her coat and backpack on the way out. She left behind the little piece of cardboard, with the three matching cupcakes and the $20,000 designated prize amount printed in the winner’s square.
