About Think and grow rich

Think and Grow Rich was written by Napoleon Hill in 1937 and promoted as a personal development and self-improvement book. He claimed to be inspired by a suggestion from the business magnate and later-philanthropist Andrew Carnegie.

This book's main focus is on money-making rules and principles, but you can use them to achieve any goal that you put your mind to.

To illustrate it, I will separate into first, principles, and second, the rules.

Principles

1. Desire

Define a definite purpose and pursue the definite purpose with a burning desire.

2. Faith

Faith in this context is a strong belief that we create within ourselves to accomplish our definite purpose.

3. Autosuggestion

Faith can be induced by repeated instruction on the subconscious mind.

4. Specialized knowledge

Knowledge must be specialized and organized to create value

5. Imagination

Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.

6. Planning

An organized plan is necessary to be successful.

7. Take action

Being decisive is essential. Decide and take massive action promptly. The universe moves fast.

8. Persistence

Consistency and persistence are and will always be the key. Never give up.

9. Form a mastermind

Get around people that are chasing the same thing you are. Even if it is hard nowadays due to Covid. Go online, give your social media good use. You would be amazed how easy it is to get in contact with some great minds.

10. Sex transmutation

Just like you use your sex drive as the motivation you should seek success with the same urge.

11. Reprogram your beliefs

Hack your subconscious mind and believe that you can achieve anything. Think about all the hardships you have been through before, none of them killed you, neither will this goal.

12. The brain

Your brain is similar to a radio. It operates at specific set frequencies. In the case of your brain, these frequencies are emotions: love, hate, despair, fear, confidence, and more. Radio can only provide sound when the transmitter and receiver are set to the same frequency. In the same way, if you want your brain to provide wealth, then you have to make sure that your emotions reflect that frequency.

13. Sixth sense

Believe that there is something bigger looking out for you. Be open to it, to new opportunities to a new life, to a new achievement.

When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”

6 rules to accomplish any goal

1. What do you want?

Be precise and clear about what you want, because you need to be able to measure it.

  • How much money do you want?
  • How much weight do you want to lose?
  • How many miles do you want to run?

2. What can you give?

There is no such thing as getting something without giving something. To achieve your goal you need to accept that there are certain habits and daily actions that do not align with your goal.

After that choose what you are willing to offer to achieve your goal.

E.g How much money do you want?

Habits: Stop overspending, track expenses, sell whatever you have that you ain’t using.

My offer: I will provide good content on Medium, Twitter, and Youtube to help others get out of debt, start investing, and start living a better life.

3. Set a deadline

If you say you will clean your house in 3 hours, you will. If you say you will clean your house in 12 hours, you will.

Using a deadline will give you that sense of urgency knowing that you have so many days to achieve that goal.

4. Make a plan

Be strategic with your goal, prepare a definite plan and begin implementing it right away.

Go with phases, what you are going to do next after each milestone.

5. Write it down

Using points 1,2, 3, 4. Write down a statement expressing What you want, Why do you want it, What will you sacrifice to achieve it, plus your master plan including a deadline.

E.g

I will have lost 24 pounds by December 9, to improve the way I look and my knee pains from being overweight.

To achieve my goal I will stop having sugar with my drinks, I will have only 2 slices of pizza when I am out, and will decrease alcohol to once every two weeks. I will go to the gym or a walk every day, nonnegotiable. And, I will cook all my meals on Sundays.

I will unfollow food accounts on socials and start following coaches, runners, and people that have achieved what I am trying to.

Following these habits and plans, I will achieve this by December 9th.

6. Read it out loud

Every day stand in front of your bathroom mirror and read it out loud believing that you have everything needed to achieve it. Read it once in the morning and once at night. That will give you the path you need to follow the days that you are not feeling it.

The most effective way to do it, is to do it.
