Giving It All Away

Some Observations On The Image Sharing Sites That I Have A Presence On

Introduction

I see lots of posts on Vocal and Medium on how to make lots of money in next to no time by various methods, and we would all like to stumble on a method where we could set something in motion where we do absolutely nothing apart from raking in the cash and having loads of money to spend. On an almost daily basis I am targetted by (usually "females" in bikinis about making a fortune in cryptocurrencies and forex if I just have a thousand dollars to give them) whichI block as soon as they contact me.

I am an old white male so will obviously do anything that a young scantily clad female asks of me. Believe it or not I won't.

But ...

A long time back I joined asite where I could sell photographs for a reasonable price. Since joining I have sold precisely zero photographs. The thing is, these things do take effort.

Vocal has a preferred image source where people can download pictures for nothing more than a credit, and that got me thinking, if I give my stuff away it might get my name out there as a photographer and creator, although I am not a great photographer.

So here are the sites that I have a presence on with the possible remuneration that you could make from being a member of that site.

Picfair

This was my first sign up to try and make money from my pictures. Each one will cost anyone who buys it about £5 but as yet I have not made a sale.

I add pictures every few months and it costs me nothing to have them there, so if someone does buy one it will be a win for me.

Unsplash

This is the default image system built into Vocal from free picture downloads, so I thought it may be an idea to have a few pictures on there.

The site allows free downloads for a credit but people can donate to you via Paypal and even hire you if they think you photographs are good enough. Mt total income from Unsplash is zero and I don't know if anyone has credited me anywhere for the pictures they have downloaded.

Sometimes photos are rejected essentially becaus ethey don'rt meet Unsplash standards, but I have never been given a specific reason for rejection.

Pixabay

Pixabay is where I am most active with over two hundred uploads and four and a half thousand downloads. Tips can be given via the Coffee button, but as yet that is a big fat zero for me.

The only two people that I know have used my images in their Vocal stories are Mariann and Thavien

ClickaSnap

Pam Reeder introduced me to this one. I am not exactly sure how this works but it implies that you are paid per view of your image. There are various levels, starting at a free level which means to get paid I will need fifteen thousand picture views, which depending on how they are counted may be a big hill to climb.

The thing is once I have have put my picture there, in theory I then have to do nothing until I get paid by ClickaSnap.

All the others can bring in money but Picfair is dependent on making actual sales, and Pixabay and Unsplash are dependent on people deeming you worthy of recieving a financial reward for what they take from you.

Given that I only ask for a credit there is no pressure to actually give me any money and personnaly I would like it to stay that way, but a tip or a coffee is always nice to get.

Conclusion

I probably won't even make coffee money from my pictures, but the fact I knwo people are liking them, using them and downloading them makes me feel that I have succeeded somewhat in my aims.

There are over four thousand copies of my pictures on computers around the world.

This is my Top Story about how I create my pictures on Night Cafe and you can probably download direct from there as well.

I've included Leo Sayer's "Giving All Away" as music, it was covered and was a hit for Roger Daltrey but I love Leo's sparse original, just him and his piano.

Wow, those are some steep criteria to meet to sell an image! Kudos to you for having your work out there. I thought about it before but just don't have time I'm willing to spend. I love that you have so many creative outlets!! Thanks for sharing :)

Gosh, it's so hard to make money off of photographs. At least Vocal is pay per read and you can add your photos here too. Thanks for this insight :)
