Four Temptations to Develop Willpower and Six Questions to Avoid Them

There are many temptations between a serious-minded person and his achieved goal. Let’s talk about them now.

Self-discipline and temptation.

Discipline means awareness. Continuous monitoring of the current state. A disciplined person knows that he has 24 hours a day, can match them to his goals, and prioritize.

Temptation can be the main obstacle to achieving goals. They promise mountains of pleasure and entice you to do what you want and forget about what to do. Give in to them for just a minute, and now you have already satisfied your desire, but the goal remains at the same level. And it’s good if she didn’t move back.

Choose to be a slave to your desires or their master.

Temptation #1.

The first temptation lies somewhere above the discipline itself. Its essence is very simple — not to strive for anything.

Temptation quietly whispers in your ear: “You are already cool, why do you need to train?” In order not to be led by this voice, a firm response must be prepared.

To become disciplined, you need to understand why you need it. And the answer should not be of the category: “it is useful” or “it is important” or “it is fashionable”.

Call a spade a spade: “If I don’t start exercising twice a week, I’ll stay fat.” “If I don’t start learning English, I will never get promoted.” “If I don’t stop whining, I will die crying.”

Understanding the specific result you are striving for is extremely important, otherwise, no advice will help.

So why do you need to become disciplined?

Temptation #2.

The next temptation to be prepared for is external and internal obstacles. Anything that will distract you and make you waste your time.

It is better to prepare for this in advance and make a list of all possible difficulties. It will not be possible to describe everything, our brain will come up with new ones every time, it is important to keep track of them and fix them. Start your list with the simplest. For example, when I start writing an article, I might be tempted to:

social networks;

phone calls;

desire to have a snack;

see the direct on Instagram.

Write your list and leave room for updates. Identifying interference means making sure it is in advance.

It is still unknown what is worse — external factors that can be turned off or internal qualities that are not turned off.

Now is not the most pleasant task. Identify your flaws. What internal beacons will stop you while working? They can be compared to a chain, if one link is weak, at the slightest pressure, the chain will break.

Remember what qualities prevented you from achieving goals in the past?

Which of the “outside world” will become an obstacle to achieving goals?

Temptation #3.

Cope alone. Any action is much easier to perform when there is one of two things: an example to follow or a like-minded person. Both options are good accelerators of not only self-discipline but also the skill of achieving goals.

Role models are needed as role models that you want to be like. These are the ones who have achieved the results that you only dream of now. Finding such people today will not be difficult, for this, there are social networks, a hashtag system, friends, and acquaintances. Their experience will prevent you from making mistakes.

A like-minded person is a personal support, “kicker” and inspirer in one person, or a group of people, if you put together a team of people, with the same goals.

Who I know is a role model for me?

Which of my friends can be my support?

Temptation #4.

Close your eyes to mistakes and not analyze your actions. It will not work to become a man with iron willpower and at the same time not stumble anywhere.

Making a lot of mistakes is not scary; it is much worse to make the same mistakes.

I know of no better way to stop stepping on the same rake than to keep track of them. Fix and remember every mistake. Track progress.

I once read a great phrase that helps me analyze my path: “If you are happy with your work, you are on the right track. If not, find the error and direct all efforts to eliminate it.“

Am I analyzing my mistakes?

Find the answers to these six questions so that there is no temptation between you and your new disciplined version.
