FOUR KINDS OF FAITH

Hebrews 11 (New King James Version):

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

¹ Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

² For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.

What is faith?

Faith is the essential foundation of our hopes and the conviction of things that are not visible.

It serves as proof and validation, allowing us to receive approval from God.

Hebrews 10 (New English Translation):

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

³⁸ But my righteous one will live by faith, and if he shrinks back, I take no pleasure in him.

³⁹ But we are not among those who shrink back and thus perish, but are among those who have faith and preserve their souls.

CATEGORIZATION

Every child of God possesses faith.

Yet, our faith does not necessarily have to be the same.

In Romans 12:3, it is stated, "For by the grace given to me I say to every one of you not to think more highly of yourself than you ought to think, but to think with sober discernment, AS GOD HAS DISTRIBUTED TO EACH OF YOU A MEASURE OF FAITH."

This indicates that we all have varying measures or types of faith.

God responds to us based on our level of faith, and since we cannot reach Him on our own, we draw near to Him and he draw near us so that we can reach him. We must rely on His grace to receive from Him.

Number One Abraham’s FAITH

Genesis 17 (New English Translation):

¹⁵ Then God said to Abraham, "As for your wife, you must no longer call her Sarai; Sarah will be her name.

¹⁶ I will bless her and will give you a son through her. I will bless her, and she will become a mother of nations. Kings of countries will come from her!"

¹⁷ Then Abraham bowed down with his face to the ground and laughed as he said to himself, "Can a son be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Can Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?"

¹⁸ Abraham said to God, "Oh, that Ishmael might live before You!"

¹⁹ But God said, "No, Sarah your wife is going to bear you a son, and you will name him Isaac. I will confirm my covenant with him as a perpetual covenant for his descendants after him.

Abraham, known as the father of faith, experienced a moment of doubt when God revealed that his wife, Sarah, would bear a son in their old age. Abraham laughed to himself, questioning the possibility of such an event. However, God, in His infinite wisdom, decided to enforce His will and fulfill His promise to Abraham. Despite Abraham's initial doubt, God remained steadfast in His plan and assured Abraham that Sarah would indeed give birth to Isaac.

This highlights an important aspect of faith—the faithfulness and sovereignty of God. Even when we doubt, God remains faithful to His promises and works behind the scenes to bring them to pass. Abraham's doubts did not hinder God's plan; instead, they served as an opportunity for God to demonstrate His power and faithfulness.

There are instances in our lives when we may doubt God's promises or question the feasibility of His plans. However, it is important to remember that our doubts do not limit God's ability to accomplish His purposes. God can use our doubts and struggles to strengthen our faith and reveal His faithfulness to us.

Abraham's journey of faith teaches us that God's plans are not dependent on our doubts or limitations. His power and faithfulness surpass our understanding, and He is able to accomplish the impossible.
