Feeling overwhelmed? Maybe it's your organization.

Take back your mind

Life and all of its tasks can get overwhelming. Every single detail and thought you have concerning the ever growing list of things you must do swims in your thoughts, separating from each other, and just making a mess within your head. You can't keep your thoughts straight. Suddenly you just don't know what you should do first and you have no idea what to do once you start, that is, if even can start. If you start on one of the ideas, maybe you will begin but you can't continue doing the work because of your thoughts and worries about the rest of your tasks. You can't concentrate. Sometimes it feels like there are just too many things to do and you just want to quit it all before you've even begun. But truly, this could be caused by a lack of organization of tasks. Your mind can tend to scatter all of your thoughts and with all of these duties, your thoughts have started to swarm around, making it hard to tell how much you really have to do. It makes your panic so easy. You can simply shut down when you think about the amount of work you need to do. Your mind can tend to overexaggerate the number of things you must do. In this kind of situation, your organization is key.

If you can relate to all of this, don't worry, there is a very simple way to organize your thoughts that I have found to be efficient. The simple thing that I do is making a list. When you create a checklist of tasks you must complete, it is much easier to see how much you truly have to do. A list allows you to visually determine how many things you must finish and how important each is. When you finish an assignment, you can cross it out and feel accomplished and a little more at ease as you get closer and closer to completing the entirety of the list. You can add bullet points (a list within the list) to your points on the list in order to add more detail to the tasks and make sure you are able to get all of your thoughts out. It's also okay to add in little things to remind you of simple daily life tasks that you need to do such as make your bed, eat lunch, vacuum the carpet, drink water, etc. It will give your brain a break to not have to think about such simple life activities.

Now, a list is not the only way to do this of course. If you like making charts or graphs or something else, you can do it that way. Whatever helps you to organize all of your creeping thoughts that make even concentrating difficult, do it. It is best to do it in whatever way makes you feel more at ease. Add color, stickers, little doodles. Just add some pizzaze to spice up your work. Do things that will make you feel more accomplished once you are finished with one task.

A lack of organization can leave you feeling helpless. You can't find a starting point. You don't know what to do once you start. You can't figure out what effort and details need to go into which tasks. You can't even think straight. But once you start your organization of tasks, whatever method that might be, you will begin to feel in control again.

The jumble in your brain is just taunting you, making everything you have to do seem far more intimidating than it really is. Make a list, make a chart, do something that will organize your thoughts so you can focus on the important things.
