Complacency is Not Contentment

Are you truly content in your life? Or are you just complacent? Complacency is not contentment; though many of us fool ourselves into thinking that they are the same thing. Worse; we often convince ourselves that we are one when in fact we are stuck trapped in the other. I say “we” because I surely count myself among those who are in this state of mind. Do you count yourself among us? If so; you found the right article, because we are going to talk about it here.

First, let’s talk about the difference in what these two words mean; that’s important. Contentment, is a state of being where you are maybe not fully happy with your life and the way things are going, but you are okay with where you are at in life. For the most part; everything is going well and you are comfortable in your life and in your own skin. Complacency, is simply the state of being where you have gotten used to where you are in life and are willing to keep things, the way they are; simply to not get out of your comfort zone. Often times, you’re not happy or even satisfied in any way; you are just used to it.

Search deep and be fully and truly honest with yourself; are you content or complacent in your life? Keep in mind that it is also possible to slide in between these two things several times in the course of months or even years going by. This in itself is telling of a needed change. Of course; the ultimate goal is to be happy and neither content or complacent; but that means something different to everyone really. You have to figure out what each of these three states of being would look like for you.

Change to That Better Life

The simple fact is that nothing will change unless we decide to change it, and then take actions that will lead us toward the goal we have set in our mind. You first have to decide what you want and where you want to be in life. Second, make a plan of actions that will lead you to that goal. Third, and perhaps the hardest part, is that you have to stick to that plan and take each action in order to get where you want to be. Often times, it is hard to stick to our own plans. Life happens and it will try its best to get in the way at every turn. No matter what happens and regardless of the obstacles; you must keep going and stick to your plan. Giving up is easy; driving forward is heroic. Be your own hero.

The point of this article is to get you… yes, you reading this, to understand that no matter what that goal is that you have set in your mind; it is achievable and that you have the ability inside of you to reach that goal. I don’t even know you; but I fully believe in you. If you are in a situation where unfortunately, there are no people around you that believe in you and will encourage your plan for a better life or a better you; then you will have to be your own cheerleader and know that you can do it. Just know that someone else out there (me) also knows that you can do it and fully believes in you. Be sure to find like-minded people online that have the same goals as well. Find a community online that can help motivate and encourage you. Then, turn around and be that same source of motivation and encouragement for someone else. Power in numbers is a real thing; tap into it in order to reach your goals and that better life.

Change Your Mindset, Change Your Life

Notice that we’ve been talking about making that plan of actions that will lead to your better life. That is because everything that has ever changed or improved; started in the mind. Each and every choice you make or action you take, was first a thought in your head. If you can change the way you think, you can change the direction of your life. You may even be able to change the meaning of your life, simply by changing how you perceive the elements or people in your life. If someone is not bringing positive energy to your life; get rid of them from your life. If someone is bringing positive energy to you, then pull them closer to you.

When you look around, don’t just think, “this is my life.” Instead tell yourself, “this is my life right now.” Then picture the next step in your plan and tell yourself, “this will be my life by (whatever date you set)” Keep doing that for each step. Don’t just look at where you are; keep an eye on where you will be during and after the next step. Think in terms of what will be and your certain ability and drive to get there.

When the inevitable obstacles and delays occur; be sure to remind yourself of where you are headed with the plan, why you are doing it, and that this is only an obstacle or delay… it’s not a legitimate reason to give up or stop; no matter what the problem is. Giving up on your dreams and your goals is what got you to where you are in the first place. Tell yourself that today is the day that you change how things are going to be. You are going to no longer accept that life has to hold you down from this goal. In your mind; tell yourself over and over that you are powerful enough inside to make your dream happen and to meet your goals. You are more than enough and you have everything you need in order to change your life for the better; in whatever way you choose to do so. You are the master of your own fate. You are the boss of your own life. You are simply on the journey to where you want and need to be; not hoping or wishing to get there…just already on your way. Remember; the mind controls the body and directly effects the emotions.
