As a child of the 1990s, I have had the unique opportunity to witness a lot of changes in the world around me. From the rise of the internet to the advent of social media, I have seen the world evolve in ways that would have been unthinkable just a few decades ago. In this blog, I will share my thoughts on what it's like to be a child of the 1990s who has seen a lot through over time until now.

Growing up in the 90s, I remember a time when the internet was just starting to become a thing. It was a time when dial-up connections were the norm, and getting online was a slow and frustrating process. But even back then, there was a sense of excitement about the potential of this new technology. We could look up information on any topic we wanted, communicate with people all over the world, and even shop online. It was a whole new world, and we were eager to explore it.

As the years went on, the internet continued to evolve at an astonishing pace. High-speed broadband connections became the norm, and smartphones made it possible to access the internet from anywhere at any time. Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram emerged, connecting us with friends and family all over the world. Suddenly, we could share our thoughts, feelings, and experiences with anyone, at any time.

But with all these advances came new challenges. Cyberbullying became a serious problem, and privacy concerns grew as more and more of our personal data was collected online. We also saw the rise of fake news and misinformation, which has had a profound impact on politics and society.

One of the most significant changes that I have seen in my lifetime is the increasing awareness of social issues. Growing up, I was largely unaware of issues like climate change, income inequality, and racial injustice. But as I got older and the internet made it easier to access information from a variety of sources, I became more aware of these issues and the impact they have on our world.

The internet has also had a profound impact on our culture. In the past, popular culture was largely controlled by a handful of large corporations. But with the rise of social media and user-generated content, anyone can create and share their own content with the world. This has led to a democratization of culture, with a much broader range of voices and perspectives being represented.

One of the most significant cultural shifts that I have witnessed is the growing acceptance of LGBTQ+ people. When I was a child, being gay was still largely taboo, and LGBTQ+ people were often subjected to discrimination and violence. But over the years, we have seen a growing acceptance and celebration of LGBTQ+ identities. This is due in part to the tireless work of activists and advocates who have fought for equality and visibility.

The pandemic has also had a profound impact on my generation. We have seen the devastating effects of the virus on our communities, and we have had to adapt to a new way of living. Remote work and online learning have become the norm, and we have had to find new ways to stay connected with friends and family.

The pandemic has also highlighted the deep inequalities that exist in our society. People of color, low-income people, and other marginalized groups have been disproportionately affected by the virus and its economic impacts. We have also seen a growing awareness of the importance of essential workers, many of whom are underpaid and undervalued.

Despite all the challenges that we have faced, I am optimistic about the future. My generation has grown up in a world that is more connected and diverse than ever before. We have access to more information and resources than any generation before us. And we are more aware than ever of the challenges that we face as a society.
