Isn’t it a great feeling when unexpected things happen that brighten up your day? The accomplishment of passing a test, getting a promotion, having someone recognize you for your hard work are all things that fill us with pride and strength. There are many milestones in life that keep us going and moving towards what we choose to experience next. Although what happens on the days that you aren’t receiving great news? The days where something happened that left you dissatisfied? Days where you are just settling? Knowing that with all the accomplishments and happy moments there are still those times many people ignore or push away, because experiencing it hurt. There might even be things in this moment that you are avoiding, in order to stay focused or stay strong in creating a better life for yourself. You are doing just that, trying your best to keep fighting and keep coming out on top.

What if I told you that you didn’t have to fight? How would you feel if there was no one you were keeping tabs on, avoiding, or looming over your shoulders because of a situation that went wrong? What would you do? See, the happy moments don’t have to be on a certain day at a certain time. There are a few things you can start doing that will increase happiness in every area of your life. Many people have a specific area they wish they were happier in, but after time realize the benefit brought them happiness everywhere else.

If you would like to fight less, then I invite you to ask yourself what success means to you. What do you want to see not only for yourself but for the people in your life? What would be better if things were different? As you start to think about what you truly want, notice if you start to worry, feel guilt, or tell yourself that you can’t. Notice who pops up, and what situations you keep replaying in your mind. Notice the cycle you may have been stuck in for a long time.

Many of us are not aware of the repetitive habits and thoughts that control how we show up in life. Showing up everywhere you go with the above mentality feels like you’re carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. Not only are you carrying that weight on your own, but everyone else has to hold a part of that weight as well. The weight that you might not be thinking about in the moment, but has ingrained into who you are, how you show up, and treat others. There is nothing wrong with carrying that weight, although when your small awarenesses start attracting new and better experiences you might have the proof you need to keep holding true to your new and improved thoughts. Start thinking about what actions you are going to take to support your thoughts of success. Are you going to be more patient when a tense situation arises? Are you going to take time for yourself to relax during a massage? Will you start taking time to invest in your health? Ask yourself how you feel after, and what the benefit of that was. Imagine doing more of that, and how months down the road would look like. Happiness might seem out of reach but it’s always there waiting for you to understand it

Next time you feel frustrated and like the weight of the world is on your shoulders remember what you defined success to be. The choice is always open to choose a new approach when dealing with frustration and overwhelm. That approach exists within you, it takes a second to recognize and choose it. It might feel uncomfortable and unusual especially if you get upset easily. Learning about how you react and what you would like to try instead is a challenging practice. You will start noticing the benefits and how after practice it becomes natural, you start being success. You won’t be the only one who notices you are happier!
