As the new year 2021 is almost here, take a look at some of the most common New Year’s resolutions.

The start of a new year allows you to look back on the past year and think about the life changes you would like to make. This period of reflection helps you to reassess how you spend your time and the choices you make. A better sense of clarity of our goals will help you successfully plan for the future. So yes, New Year’s resolutions are a way to help you set goals, but how often do you achieve them?

Here are the top 15 New Year’s resolutions and some tips for actually achieving them.

Get in shape and lose weight

The most common resolution has to do with getting in shape, and lose weight. If you’re trying to hit the gym to get your health up or tone your physique, you can avoid slacking off by enlisting a friend, or a family member to exercise with you. Fitness technology can help you stay on track. Trackers can monitor so many aspects of your health from sleep to steps, and so many others, and they do not need to be expensive these days. All of the information can help you be more aware and get closer to your fitness and health goals.

Avoid spending to much time online comparing your journey with others. We are all unique individuals, so our journeys are as well. We know that the key to weight loss lies in diet and exercise, we need to keep positive about it, and reduce the negativity , and negative influences surrounding us.The truth is exercise only accounts for a small portion of daily calorie burn. The main thing: If you want to lose weight, focus on cutting calories, eating healthy, and keep a life long healthy life stile, not a diet every other month. Small steps, lead to massive results.

Save more, spend less, enjoy it more

After the holidays, you’re probably looking to spend less to save more, or even before(so you get more gifts money). To get your finances in order, consider setting a budget and then looking for ways to cut costs or make some extra money. Buy and sell clothes at consignment stores, consider refurbished electronics, buy produce when it’s on sale, and bundle your car, home, and life insurance. I find it very motivating watching some budget planning gurus online for tips and tricks.

Your unhealthy habits may be costing you allot. There are some gurus out there that can teach you how to save money a lot quicker then you can imagine , from your dream vacation, to even putting a deposit down for a house. Sky is the limit.

Spend more time with loved ones

Spending time with loved ones is great for your mental health and well-being, that is one of the important lessons 2020 has given us. Set aside time each week to either call or meet up with a friend or family member, even if it is online using zoom or any other app. Take turns hosting dinner, or just get together for a walk. I’ve made more meals online with friends this year then at any other time in my life. Human connection is important for mental health, for happiness, or any other name you want to call it.

Get organized

Getting organized is a noble goal, do a hard one. You’re going to need some strategies to follow through on this one. It is fully doable, and again so many gurus that you can learn from. Take your time, and implement slow new changes to your habits every week, this way you can make sure you will end up successful in your journey of becoming more organized.

Travel more

Many of the most successful resolutions require planning and finding ways to stick to your goals. So if you want to travel more in 202, be specific about where you want to go, when you want to go there, and what you’d like to do when you get there. Then start researching to find out what the restrictions are, if you need a visa, what it’s going to cost, what you’ll need to bring, and how much time you’ll want to spend.

From there, you can start creating a budget, start a travel fund. Letting others in on your plans will help keep you accountable, making make a goal board that you hang in your kitchen, bedroom, or office to entice you on keeping up.

Eat at home more

If you’re hooked on home delivery /takeout, it’s probably taking a toll on your budget and your health. Cooking at home is cheaper and better for your health than ordering in or then eating out since you’re in charge of the ingredients.

Then, stock your kitchen with the right tools and have some go-to weeknight recipes, this way you can work on your organization skills by preparing a meal plan every week, and treat yourself with an increased budget at the end of the month, or of every week depending how you keep it in check. Make it fun, involve everyone in your house, this way it will be more then a task. It will be a pleasure. You can even try new recipes you always wanted to, who knows, maybe you will end up a master chef.

Quit smoking

No matter how many times we are told our health is at risk from this nasty habit, we will not quit until we find a good motivation for it. So look for that one reason that will make you quit. For my husband it was me having a breakdown one night thinking he is more at risk during this pandemic, and that I might loose home, and I might be left alone with our little one. The thought of not being there to see our little girl grow up, has been the one motivation he needed. Next step will be the ‘’how??’’. That is another easy one, not everyone can do it could turkey, so you can go to your health care provider for help and support. They will have many, many ways to help you.

And the last step will be : Talk with the group of people that surround you that smoke as well, and tell them about your goal.

Reduce stress

I now what you are thinking,’’ You must be joking’’.

If you’re resolving to reduce your stress in the New Year, you might try this resolution: priorities yourself. Setting aside a few minutes a day to meditate, or journal, you can make real progress by doing this. It will make you see life a bit different, and it will help you take a step back from the negative and stressful events and people in your life.

Get more sleep

Good sleep is essential to overall health, so resolving to sleep better is wise. First, try to go to bed at the same time every night, so your body will get used to the routine and naturally start to wind down. Avoid caffeinated drinks after midday, and have your last alcoholic drink at least two to three hours before your bedtime. Make your bedroom a sleep haven, with comfortable bedding, a soothing color scheme, and limited distractions, such as screens, or phones.

Create your end of the day winding down routine, that you will use every night to get ready for bed.

If you read all this list, you might have noticed how most of them are connected with one another. The goal is to improve your life, and end up with a happier, healthier you.

Good luck to all of us.
