We are mortal beings. If it was never at the forefront of our minds , the current COVID-19 global pandemic surely has us all thinking along those lines now. So in a time where the world has stopped for a moment to recalibrate, you might be thinking about your life and asking , what now? what next? Have I done all I could do ? Have I been all that I could have been ? If you saw this article and were expecting information about the best stocks and shares to buy now that the markets have been heavily impacted by the coronavirus, then this is not your article to read. Although that is not a bad idea at all considering that you probably will be buying some stocks and shares at ridiculously low prices. No, with this article I would like to challenge your thoughts about investments by highlighting 5 essential things to invest in now.

1.Your mind. Ever heard the saying that the battle is in your mind? The power of the human mind is at times heavily underestimated. Yet this is where everything is birthed. The power of an idea , a thought. It can even be said that the world is run on the ideas and thoughts of people that have lived on this earth . Think about historical Karl Marx and Marxism, John Maynard Keynes and Keynesian economics all the way to Kylie Jenner and her current massive influence over the world of make up! Your thoughts have presence and I have learned that ideas belong to those who pay attention to it. So keep investing in your mind . Use whatever it is that you have and whatever your circumstances will allow. There are so many online courses available right now and you would be surprised at the number of them that are free. Educate yourself , and fill your mind with positive and stimulating material. You are what you read or listen to , so with all the negativity in the news remember to stay positive and centred . Your mind needs it.

2. Your body. Your body is your temple and it’s the only one you got so treat it well please. This is one thing that I have taken for granted for so long. You sort of take it for granted that you can always do the things you used to do and move the way you used to move when you were younger until you start to hear your knees creaking every time you move. All who are connected to you will thank you for investing in your body by treating it right . Eat right, exercise , get checked up regularly, get your smear tests done, get your prostrate checked. Don’t forget your teeth, your skin , your hair . Love yourself and put yourself first. Trust me if you don’t , nobody will.

3. Your children. Yes, those precious extensions of you that are full of wonder and yet have the ability to drive you up the wall. If the current global pandemic and the subsequent lockdown has taught us anything it will be that time with family is precious. Especially when it comes to building and creating lasting memories with our children. This is priceless and is at the same level of importance as the investments that we make into their formal education. They will never get wisdom, life’s hacks or any practical keys to living a full life like what you can give them first hand. Their success depends on it.

4. Your gifts. I hear you say , what gifts? By gifts I mean your talents, what the world has trained us to call our ‘hobbies’ while keeping us busy with our ‘occupations’. Pre-coronavirus, it will not be untrue to say that we were in the cyclical habit of working on a job which we mostly hated but needed to keep to pay the bills , while saving for a pension that may not even be sufficient to fund the lifestyle that we dreamed about when we retire. Sound familiar? Well, if we ever needed a clarion call , this is it. Are you a gifted craftsman? A gifted poet, singer, fighter, chef, entrepreneur? Please do not bury the things that you find so easy to do. Those who discovered their gifts and invested heavily and relentlessly in it are celebrated by the world today and you and I call them celebrities. Well let me be the first to celebrate you today and encourage you to take that first baby step to focus on what you love to do. You need no permission to do this. The world is currently at a stand still. You may never have this time and chance again.

5. Your environment. Now I am no Greta Thunberg although I admire the guts of this young lady! Neither am I Sir David Attenborough even though I belief strongly that our earth is pleading for our help to change . In this context I am referring to your immediate environment right now. This could be your room where you may be reading this , your home or your office. This could also be what you surround yourself with, your books, your interior decor, your mood music , your feng shui . This has a great impact on your productivity in everything that you do , so pay attention to this area and see what little things you can do to make you more zen.

In all of this let time be your currency not necessarily money. Isn’t that great? You may not need to spend a single penny but your rewards have the potential to be great.
