“The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential; these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence.” - Confucius

I'm going to start today with a blunt reality check for the majority of people worldwide, and that is you have not achieved the goals you have aspired to achieve in life, or are not in the process of striving for them, evident by the actions you are currently taking, then you are living a life of mediocrity! You are not only wasting your life away, but you are also wasting away your potential! Now this may sound harsh, but unfortunately for you, it's also the truth. What is the point in living life without purpose, without direction, without satisfaction, and without happiness? That's not living whatsoever, that's merely existing! Within each and every one of us lies greatness and excellence, the problem is that very few are prepared to showcase their talent, skill, and potential, all because they live their life in fear and doubt. Most people want to find comfort and solace, to find that particular zone and routine in which they feel knowledgeable, accepted, respected, and in control. Even despite the fact they feel unsatisfied, unhappy, and unfulfilled, and continue to be starved of success and accomplishment in their life, they find safety and reassurance in this zone of comfort and solace. They don't want to disrupt themselves from this comfort and solace, because that means they will need to venture out into the unknown, exposing themselves to risk, to a lack of knowledge, a surrender of control, and the potential for others to be judging them and ridiculing them. It's what we all know as the "comfort zone". Wikipedia describes the comfort zone as "a psychological state in which things feel familiar to a person and they are at ease and (perceive they are) in control of their environment, experiencing low levels of anxiety and stress. In this zone, a steady level of performance is possible." Personally, I would eliminate the detail about experiencing low levels of anxiety and stress, because in living within our comfort zone, we are often constantly feeling unhappy, unsatisfied, and unfulfilled, and that starts to create a real unease and discomfort, which does lead to stress and anxiety. Life will continue to make things uncomfortable for us if we continue to refrain from stepping out of our comfort zone, in order to grow, which actually will only heighten that anxiety and stress. Having said that, when we do step out of our comfort zone, and strive towards achieving our goals, those challenges and adversities do intensify.

Stepping out of our comfort zone is mandatory for success however. As the final component to the definition above states, remaining in our comfort zone leads to a steady level of performance. Now that may sound quite appealing, whilst also not offering any encouragement to leave our comfort zone, but it states a steady level of performance, not a steady level of progress. When we think of the word "steady", we think of equal balance. When two equal weights are placed on a see-saw, that see-saw is then held steady, at 50% weight balance. If we then transfer that theory of 50% balance into our performance, we are basically working at a minimum level, we are doing only what we need to do, we are only giving 50% of our effort and talent into our work. Right there highlights mediocrity! Our comfort zone does not lead us to grow, nor progress, nor succeed. We need to step out of our comfort zone, overcome all these fears, doubts, and insecurities, that are holding us back from progressing, growing, and excelling in life. We want our performance levels to rise much closer to that 100% level. Now it's fair to say that it's near impossible to be operating at 100% day after day, and that's okay, because we are only human after all, but we need to be striving for that 100% each day. We need to work to our full capacity and give it all that we have every day. We need to be challenging ourselves, stretching ourselves, and pushing ourselves to be working hard. One of the best ways to challenge ourselves is to voluntarily step out of our comfort zone, to be taking risks, to be making decisions and executing the actions that are working towards achieving our goals, and a life blessed with success and happiness. Only when we take on the journey towards achieving our goals, when we confront failures, adversities, setbacks, rejections, and opposition, and in turn overcome and conquer them, to go on and succeed, do we then find greatness and excellence. It's when we endure such a challenging and arduous journey, to which we have constantly found solutions and the willpower to keep on going, despite years of failure and adversity, that's when we uncover our true potential, and that's when we reveal the excellence and greatness within us. It's the characteristics of perseverance, resilience, determination, patience, drive, and commitment, in which excellence can be found. If you're not working at your job or your business to your full potential, then you're lacking excellence! If you're not living the life of your desire, and instead settling for unhappiness and mediocrity, then you're lacking excellence! Stop existing, and start actually living! Again, you have greatness, excellence, and immense potential within you, so don't waste it! Take risks, design the life you desire, strive for your goals, and commit yourself 100% to achieving these, so you can enjoy a future blessed with happiness, success, and satisfaction!
