20 Questions You Absolutely Need To Ask Yourself
And one that rules them all
Most of the world just sail through life without ever taking the time to consider deeply the reasons behind their actions nor considering all the options available for their future.
While this doesn’t prevent us from “living our life”, it does block us from real happiness and fulfillment. Indeed, this causes us to overlook crucial facts that could have changed our life for the better.
The tendency to look for meaning in life is growing stronger day after day and Covid-19 only made it grow faster. One of the reasons there are still people who haven’t done this introspection is the unawareness of the different questions to ask oneself.
So here is an extensive but definitely not limited list of questions we should all ask ourselves. They aren’t in a particular order because everybody has their own past and mindset, thus impacting which question will be “easier” to tackle. Either way, all those questions should not get addressed only once. As you find more answers, your response to a previous question will certainly evolve, which will impact others and so on.
- What do I want to accomplish before I die? — Find your life goal(s)
- What would I regret if I died tomorrow? — Find what you have been pushing away
- What is making me come alive? — Find what excites you
- What makes you lose track of time? — Find your flow
- What am I grateful for? — Find what makes you feel happy
- What are my biggest failures and what can I learn from those? — Become a better person by learning from your past
- What are my values? — Learn more about yourself
- How does my social life impact how I feel? — Discover how well you are in your skin
- How often do I show love for myself? — Reflect on your self-talk
- 5 years from now, what advice would I give myself? — Find what you want to change about yourself
- How much time do I invest in the people I care for? — Reflect on the importance of your relationships
- If I kept on living my life as I am, where would I be in 5 years? In 15 years? — Discover how comfortable you are with your life
- How do I react to negative comments? — Find if you are able to stay positive in negative settings
- How regular is my life’s rhythm? — Reflect on the unevenness of your life
- How much do I look forward to the weekend? — Find the impact of your work-life on your mental health
- How healthy is my life? Am I eating well and exercising? — Notice the improvements you can make to live a healthier and longer life

- When am I most efficient during the day and have I tried the opposite extreme to verify it? — Understand your internal clock and adapt your life accordingly
- What would people say at my funeral? — Find your “Why” to give meaning to your life
Of course, those are only a start and each can be divided into multiple more precise questions. None is easy to answer and if you feel that one is, I’m afraid it means you haven’t thought about it hard enough. Take your time and get back to those regularly because your answers will evolve as you do too.
No need to worry about the amount of “work” needed to answer those though! The more you think about those, the more fun it will become and in the end, it all comes down to clarify one single question:
Who am I?
