Working Under COVID-19

A few reasons why it has become stressful

When the official announcement came out that the pandemic is here and that we all needed to work together to understand that life is going to change. That there's going to be a new norm, an outburst of panics around the world and those who were fortunate enough to keep their job & lifestyle had to be the superheroes.

I felt that I need to be that superhuman to help this person because she/he lost their job, to understand why we have to go through these protocols, and to feel more empathetic to anyone that walks through that door because I am here. I am here to guide you and to try my best to assist in your life whether it was a small request or an unimaginable demand.

To the ones who will come out as heroes, I praise you.

The Demand

Working in an essential job was already stressful enough. You're already working past the 9 to 5, but to hell with it, you needed to work that overtime because it would just make you go insane when you leave the workplace not getting that task done. But now, the phones are ringing, times running short and the clients are knocking on the door like it's a line up for a concert outside. Do you feel the pressure? The demand of the environment escalated to the max and you're already ticking before you clocked in.

People Forget it's still COVID

You probably heard this sentence multiple times, "When are you going back to normal," "Why are you still doing this, the other companies aren't doing it," or "This is a fucking stupid process." No one likes a dramatic change because it's not in people's comfort zones, but for the love of God, people are not making it easy for you to adjust. You're ready to accept it, but people are in denial. They forget the reason that you need to protect them and that you're protecting yourselves.

Waiting

At first, anywhere you looked there's always a lineup. To even get your groceries it probably took you more than an hour to grab the food you needed, but you get it. You get it because you understand. Then maybe you hear someone else yelling at a worker because of the wait time and it boils you up inside and you want to scream because it's not their fault. The patience for many people in this world has decreased and the amount of stupidity has increased. You can't even watch an ad for 5 seconds nowadays.

And I get it. I know I’m not someone who works in the medical field, but I am still someone who worked for the frontline of customer service. When the older generation is complaining that there’s too much change, I think all millennials agree that we grew up from change. It’s a part of us who are already ready to adapt to new technology, new idealism, and a new society. Vice versa, I get that change is hard for some people, but in all honesty, people have to look at it as a new skill to gain. If you didn’t know how to do this or how to do that, then look at it as a new learning opportunity for you to grow. Personally, I’ve had clients who didn’t know how to do online meetings and to get it started. Some clients I had were retired folks, however, I never judged who they are and just simply asked that they can learn with me. People who take the time to learn new things excite me because it shows that people are willing to try new things in life. Overall, I know there are so many people out there who have been feeling the same way about how stressful it has become during COVID-19, but it's okay. You're not alone.
