Working Together

For A Vaccine

The whole point of this virus is to force the different world players caught up in the Covid-19 mess to work together. Now that is not a totally radical proposition but it may yet work out. Why is it that Australians are mature enough to work together with their Chinese counterparts, but Americans are simply wailing about having to work together with Chinese scientists? We could find a vaccine in 12-18 months they say, but the thing is, if we cooperated, what a concept, we could find one in half that time. By April 15th, 2020 there were 2 million confirmed infections of Covid-19 so far. To tabulate the numbers from this date: the US has 582,000 cases, China only 83,000, Spain 172,000 where more people are getting tested, France, 137,000, the U.K. has 89,000 cases, Germany 130,000, France 137,000 following behind Germany, and then Italy has soared at 159,000 cases.

Healthcare or hospital workers need to be vaccinated first for the vaccine, since they are frontline workers. For the people who have been tested, we have 610,000 cases, and over 62,000 deaths. Like 45 is really reassuring about a vaccine being eventually found "soon." Phase 1 of any vaccine trial is done to make sure the vaccine is safe to give to humans. Phase 2 is a trial given to folks with characteristics such as age making them susceptible to the new virus or even underlying chronic health condition. In Phase III, the vaccine is given to people in the thousands, as a test to see if it works or not. The Food and Drug Administration is looking to ensure the continued safety of the vaccine. The Covid-19 crisis was something that started in December of last year, ballooning into the hot mess it is today. This crisis is teaching us how to work together. Remdesivir is an experimental drug that helps Covid-19 patients recover in less than a week. Covid-19 causes severe pneumonia or respiratory distress in vulnerable patients.

Then there is the fact that people with underlying conditions do get the illness in a worse manner than those of us with healthy immune systems but see, this virus can take out anybody. This is something that is equal opportunity illness to get people sick. Experimental treatments are being used to see what is the most effective for Covid-19. Eventually a great treatment plan will be pieced together. This is why social distancing is necessary to keep going for a while longer. Scientists need to find evidence that specific drugs do work. Hydroxychloroquine is not a cure for Covid-19 since there is no proof that this malaria drug actually works. Keep it together people because eventually there will be a vaccine. Antivaxxers, stop it. You people are ignorant and don't know any better. Covid-19 is a tricky beast, with unique manifestations. It does not always manifest in a severe way if some cannot have symptoms at all. This is why wearing a mask is good for all types of people.

Fever is generally one of the first symptoms. Europe is working together with China, and the United States to produce a vaccine that will take care of this virus. The competition is supposedly healthy to some people, since working together really is what people are trying to do here. It was Australia that developed a single-dose vaccine that is needed to satisfy demand in Australia, and shipped to other countries. One problem with working together though is that China is looking to be competitive with other countries. The thing is vaccines will be used to vaccinate billions of people who want it. So antivaxxers are probably paranoid about what this vaccine may mean but all it does is give your immune system a fighting chance. Vaccines save lives. If only because the vaccine is a way to attune your immune system to the plague, since that is one way to fight the illness ignorant ones. Yes, other countries are pretending to work together but really, more cooperation needs to be done.
