What happens if you eat nothing for 40 days? Water Fasting?

Benefits and dangers of water fasting.

Some of us may not know what a water fast is, but I’m going to explain it to you in brief terms. Basically, if you were to do a water fast, say, for about a week, you’d ingest nothing but water for that defined period of time.

But, is this healthy, you might ask? What will happen to my body? Is this dangerous?

I will tackle these questions, and hopefully you’ll get your answers when you read through, which I recommend doing.

So, we can all agree that water is one of the most important, if not the most important requirement for life to exist.

I know that for me and many others, we fail to drink enough water during our day. We forget to some times, or go for other options such as caffeinated and/or sugary drinks.

Maybe what we need is to be more consciously aware of the benefits associated with this miracle drink.

Why do we drink water, seriously? Can we live off other liquids like coffee?

I will not go into too technical and scientific explanations, so I will try to keep it simple.

You need water when you wake up to kick-start regular body functions. After you wake up, you are seriously dehydrated, and your first drink shouldn’t be a caffeinated drink such as coffee. Water also helps detoxify your body early in the morning, and fuels your brain.

You need it before going to bed to decrease the risk of stroke and heart failure. Yes, it can get this serious.

You need it for everything in between, to keep you fresh during the day, aid your digestion, and enhance energy levels and brain performance.

Aside from that, you’ll notice many other benefits such as clear skin, improved mood, prevented hangovers, balanced pH, regular body temperatures, and bolstered immune functions.

So, in the end, why don’t we drink enough of it? For me at least, I tend to forget to do so, so what I recommend doing is setting alarms on your phone, or using apps to log in such info and keep track of your progress for you.

Now, the questions, what happens if you water fast?

First, I want to get a note out of the way, which is important;

I do want to stress here that if you’ve never fasted before or if you have certain medical conditions, I do not recommend starting a fast without medical supervision.

If you have no history of medical conditions, I recommend starting with a day or two to see how your body reacts. I’ve read of people who went up to 40 day fasts, and were successful, but do not try this if you have never fasted or have medical constraints, and seek guidance from a health professional first for your safety.

When you do end up finishing your fast, during 1-3 days post your fast, do not eat a very large meal, since you will gain the weight or more than you initially started with (this is something you might care about if you fasted for weight loss reasons).

You may also experience unwanted repercussions like what is known as the refeeding syndrome, which is characterized by sudden fluctuations in electrolyte levels, which help regularize metabolic functions. Again, proceed with caution.

Aside from that, if you seek medical assistance when appropriate, and make an informed decision to fast, you will be fine, and actually benefit from many things, some of which include;

1.Skin improvements, clearer, more radiant

2.Weight loss, which is positive if you are personally unhappy with your weight, perhaps for medical and health reasons

3.Improved heart health

4.Lower blood sugar and pressure

5.Reduced stress

6.Enhanced longevity

7.Boosted Metabolism

All in all, you are sure to benefit from a water fast, if you do it cautiously, wisely, and under proper supervision. A test session is also encouraged to predict how your body will react to longer fast periods.

I hope you enjoyed this, have a good day or night!
