Almost everyone knows how important it is to stay hydrated. That being said, it is easier said than done. It is even harder for those who don't enjoy the taste of water. Others simply prefer to drink something else.

Want to drink more water? Here are some ways to help.

Know how much water you need to drink

Before you pick up your first drink, you need to know how much you need to drink on a daily basis. The National Academy of Medicine (NAM) recommends that men have one hundred and twenty-five ounces. Women should drink ninety.

That being said, you need to think about activity level. The heat outside will make a difference too. You will need to drink more when you are outside in the heat all day. You also need to carry a water bottle if you are going to be exercising outside.

Your health may also require you to drink more or less water. You may need to increase your water intake if your kidneys need help to flush out the toxins.

Use a resusable water bottle

The best way to ensure that you are drinking enough water is to have it close by. You are going to want to easily grab your water, even if you are out and about.

To do this, you should consider buying a reusable water bottle. Even better, you can choose one that you love, so that you are even more likely to carry it around.

This also works because you will see your bottle whenever you feel like you need to get a drink. Instead of getting up to get something, you can choose the water that is right by your side!

Drink all day long

If you want to make sure that you are drinking enough, you should spread it throughout your entire day. Instead of gulping a glass down three or four times a day, you can simply take sips and make it last all day long. You may be amazed at how much you drink after sipping on it throughout your day.

Replace another drink with water

If you aren't a big water drinker, what do you drink? Can you start to replace one soda or ice tea a day with a glass of water? After a few days, you may be able to replace two drinks with two glasses of water. In fact, after a few weeks, you may find yourself mainly drinking water.

Drink one glass of water before your meal

You may want to start your meals off with a glass of water. That will add three more glasses into your total water consumption.

This also has another benefit. It may help with your weight because you won't need to eat as much until you are full. The water will help to fill up your stomach so you are satisfied faster.

Eat foods high in water

There are many foods that are filled with water. These include:

  • Lettuce
  • Celery
  • Zucchini
  • Cabbage
  • Watermelon
  • Cantaloupe
  • Honeydew

Not only will these help you get more water into your diet, they are also great for your health. You will get the necessary vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to stay healthy.

Add flavor

If you don't like the taste of water, you may want to add some flavor to it. Many people add fruit right into their water to help with the taste.

There are also flavor packets that you can try. These don't add any calories, yet they have plenty of flavor!

If you want to make sure that you are drinking enough water, you need to know what that looks like. Be sure to make allowances and drink more when you are spending time outside in the heat.

You also should have a water bottle that you carry with you everywhere. This way, your water is never far from you, and you will be more likely to take a sip of that than anything else. It also allows you to spread your water intake throughtout the whole day, instead of drinking glasses at a time.
