You had one of the worst days in a long time. The boss was on your back for an overdue deadline that was not your fault. You spilled coffee on your favorite white blouse. Your beloved stood you up on a supper date you planned for over a week.

Yes. We all have days like this one.

Besides getting home and having supper and trying to unwind for the evening, do not despair! There is a sure way to make your evening the perfect anti-stress antidote!

Epsom salts have been used for a long time to soak away stress and absorb the toxins that build up in our systems. What is this ingredient exactly? Magnesium sulfate, which is activated when dissolved in the water of a hot bath. It can be used to relieve muscle soreness after a work-out at the gym for instance, after lifting weights and preventing the post work-out pains the next morning. However, besides this and relieving stress, let me outline much more interesting facts Epsom salts can be used for.

1) Flu and Cold Relief

If you feel that cold or flu making its come-on to you, it is time to fight back fast! Viruses do not like heat and the hot Epsom salt bath is the way to do it! The hot water mimics a fever, which slows down the virus. It also boosts your immune system, which attacks the virus. Just soak in the bath for about 20 minutes and this will lessen symptoms and nip the bug in the bud! If you want, you can add essential oils like eucalyptus to relieve congestion and clear your sinuses. Note: Do not take the hot bath if you think you have a high fever!

2) Plantar Fasciitis

That pain in the sole of one or both of your feet is always bringing you down. Besides those special soles you wear, the pain is still there. Answer? Soak your feet in hot water filled with Epsom salts. You can do this in the hot bath or get one of those special foot baths. These specialized foot baths can be simple or come with specialized massaging options, vibrations and more. Just don’t forget to add those Epsom salts to the water!

3) Anxiety

If you have an anxiety disorder, there are various methods to deal with it. One effective way to calm down, relax and feel much better is to have a hot Epsom salt bath. But why stop at just the hot bath? Dim the lights, add some soft music, sounds of nature or even white noise. Next, light some candles and incense so they can all gently encompass your surroundings. Fifteen to twenty minutes of soaking in that hot Epsom salt bath in these surroundings, and you will be as calm as a cucumber!

4) Insomnia

If you are someone who can’t sleep at night or keeps on waking up several times in the night, then you probably wake up completely drained and want to stay in bed. Before you see a professional, try relaxing by having a hot Epsom salt bath before you go to bed. Try adding essential oils like lavender or chamomile to help relax you even further. Soaking in this for fifteen to twenty minutes right before you go to bed could be the answer to your problems.

5) Plants

For plant lovers, you can use Epsom salts to beautify their blooms and make them even greener! It can also stimulate speedier growth. Depending on what kind of plant and where you are growing it, this will definitely help out with any gardener!

So as you can see, Epsom salts can come in many uses. I have found them to be an amazing help for me, as I regularly hit the gym, have plantar fasciitis and occasionally suffer from insomnia and anxiety.

I am sure that you will find this inexpensive item to be a must-have in your home and find my article to be a helpful guideline for you and your family.
