Unusual Cosmetic Dentistry Trends in 2023

When we think of dentistry, we usually think of routine cleanings, fillings, and braces, but individuals from many cultures consider teeth as more than just a tool for chewing food. They also serve as a representation of an individual's status and wealth.

In today's society, the "ideal" set of teeth is straight, white, and perfectly shaped. People with "perfect" teeth are perceived to be more successful, personable, and approachable.

As a result, attempts to improve, repair, or beautify teeth became lucrative, giving rise to colorful dental traditions and innovations worldwide. This is not often the case in the rest of the world, and behind the surface of traditional oral care lies a world of unusual and peculiar trends.

In this article, we will look closely at some of the world's diverse and peculiar cosmetic dentistry customs and trends.

Tooth Jewelry

While body jewelry has been popular for a long time, teeth jewelry takes it to a whole new level. tiny diamonds or other tiny Swarovski gems are applied to the surface of teeth to create a dazzling grin in this trend. To keep the stones in place, dental glue is applied to the surface of a canine.

Individuals can express their personalities and styles through their grins in this trend. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but tooth jewelry offers an alternative to typical accessories for individuals looking for a unique form of self-expression.

It is crucial to remember that this fad is simply aesthetic and does not provide any dental health benefits. Before embarking on this trend, exercising prudence and consulting with a dental specialist is critical.

Grills

Grills are one of the most ostentatious methods to adorn teeth. This accessory is more of a fashion statement than a functional instrument. Dentists mold gold, silver, or other precious metals over a person's teeth to create a decorative overlay.

The fad began with Nelly's "Grillz," a rap homage to jeweled teeth, including more than 70 close-up views of gold and diamond-studded teeth, which sparked a cultural shift in which many hip-hop fans, celebrities, and, of course, rappers began wearing grills as part of their everyday wardrobe. 'Grills' have been spotted on Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Lady Gaga, and Rhianna.

Grills, on the other hand, are not a new phenomenon. They arose thousands of years ago as part of the Etruscan dental traditions, which flourished between 200 and 800 BC. Grills were initially seen on wealthy women. The front teeth of Etruscan women were extracted to install a gold ring containing substitute teeth. Goldsmiths, not dentists, play a role in this fashion statement. While the Estruscan grills were certainly eye-catching, they didn't offer much in terms of biting and chewing.

Odd Ingredients Whitening Toothpaste

While teeth whitening is routine, certain toothpaste companies have pushed it to new heights by using unusual substances. These products, which include toothpaste mixed with chemicals such as charcoal, matcha, and even gold flakes, claim benefits beyond standard whitening toothpaste. Despite its unusual black hue, supporters of charcoal toothpaste think that the activated charcoal can absorb stains and pollutants, leaving teeth whiter.

However, such assertions should be treated with caution. Dentists advise caution since charcoal toothpaste can be abrasive and potentially damage tooth enamel. The effectiveness and safety of these chemicals may vary, so talk to your dentist before adding this trend to your mouth care routine.

Yaeba, The Trend of Crooked Teeth

Crooked teeth, known as Yaeba in Japanese, are another counterculture concept Japan maintains in its dental traditions. Unlike many other cultures, Japan promotes Yaeba, or the beauty in imperfect teeth, which is regarded as beautiful and childlike. To say that Yaeba is well-known in Japan is an understatement.

Crooked teeth are considered endearing in the opposite sex by men since they reveal that a girl is not faultless. It is so fashionable in Japan that some Japanese ladies pay dentists to make their straight teeth crooked by inserting fake fronts on genuine teeth.

Some of us are 'fortunate' with crooked teeth and find this trend unappealing. While looking for expert alternatives, veneers may be a good, cost-effective solution (depending on your situation) and can be simply made by dentists.

The Rise of the London Gap

The London Gap is a dental style prevalent in some circles, similar to the Japanese Yaeba look. Many 20-something women were inspired by international models Georgia May Jagger and Lara Stone, who adopted the "London Look" that displayed their gap teeth prominently. This minor gap between the top two front teeth, known medically as a diastema, provides the appearance of childish eccentricity.

Whereas people used to want their gaps fixed, many are now seeing their dentist to make their gaps more noticeable.

Some people believe that gaps enhance the natural look, and many trendy people believe that it is more socially acceptable than a phony enhancement job.

The field of dentistry is not immune to strange trends and practices. These unusual tactics have piqued the interest of people looking for new ways to express themselves or improve their dental health.

It's critical to approach these changes cautiously, evaluating their potential dental repercussions and seeking advice from dental professionals. Remember that your oral health should always come first, and it's critical to prioritize the condition of your teeth and gums when investigating unexpected dental trends.

I myself am fond of the idea of having temporary pearl jewelry on tooth. But I agree it is weird new trend.
