Diet is the key to weight loss and maintenance throughout your lifetime.

It is in your best interest to view the food you eat as a means of gaining optimum nutritional value so that your body performs at its best.

Good food is also the spice of life.

It has the power to bring us superior health or increase disease.

Although I mention how important eating well is for health and longevity, indulging once in a while isn't going to cause any harm.

Balance and the right amount of nutrients are essential.

Adding exercise into the mix is not only beneficial for your health but will also help you increase your chances of losing body fat, staying trim and keeping your body lean throughout your life.

It doesn't have to be a complex program - simple walking or cycling in your favourite park is an excellent alternative.

I tend to recommend weight training, but I am aware that most people don't want to head down that road.

If this is the case for you, pick something you enjoy and do that regularly.

Use this guideline to pick the best nutritional sources every day, make sure you feed your body what it needs, and keep your mind active.

Living your life to its full extent is something we should all aim to attain.

One: Eat more nuts

Walnuts and almonds are your best bet.

The hormone leptin (which keeps you full for longer) is higher in people that consume these nuts daily.

Nuts also have a higher grade of protein, fibre and healthy fats.

Walnuts have a high antioxidant content, whereas almonds promote fat burning because of their high protein and fibre content.

Due to their vitamin E content, they support the elimination of waste.

Two: Avocados

Avocados are burned at a higher rate than any other type of fat, as well as reducing your appetite, promoting satiety for a more extended period.

It also has the added magic of decreasing inflammation.

Eat one avocado split throughout the day is a great option.

Make avocado part of a salad or mashed to become a guacamole mix.

Three: Magnificent cruciferous vegetables

Veggies such as cauliflower and broccoli help eliminate excess estrogen from the body.

Excess estrogen is both a natural and chemical occurring substance.

This is mainly present in any plastics, such as BPA.

In addition, excess estrogen can lead to fat accumulation and hormonal dysfunction.

The high fibre in these veggies increases satiety and delay carbohydrate absorption.

As a result, insulin response with these veggies is deficient, making them the perfect fat loss food.

Four: Eggs

These have a thermal effect due to their high protein content.

Eggs are also a portable food, are filling, and contain many vitamins and minerals.

Contrary to the old belief, they don't increase your cholesterol levels but improve your good to bad cholesterol ratio.

Five: Berries

Berries also blunt the amount of insulin the body produces during the response of high carb foods.

Not only do they contain antioxidants, but also fibre and happen to taste fabulous!

I love adding berries into my smoothie. They are too good to pass up because of their high nutrient profile.

When hunger hits, use them as a snack during the day, or add them to your daily bowl of high fibre oats.

Key take away

When using the above foods in your diet, they will significantly affect your body's use of fat for energy, decrease inflammation markers, improve insulin sensitivity, and support tissue repair.

Why not let food be your healer and let your body do the necessary work to create impeccable health and well-being naturally.
