5 Fitness Tips to Get You in Shape for Summer That You Should be Starting in Winter

1) Increase your water intake. The best thing about winter is that we all love to enjoy hot drinks and soups. This is a super easy way to help you consume more water and you will not even feel like you are. Of course, keep drinking that H2O as is but do not be afraid to see what else you can add it to.

2) Speaking of soup and staying warm, experiment with spices. Things like paprika and curry powders can help boost your metabolism for a short amount of time but will also keep your food from being bland or boring. It allows you to enjoy something healthy without feeling defeated because you just cannot handle the taste. Try some cinnamon powder, some studies suggest it can help curb cravings.

3) Rug up, get outdoors and go for a walk in the mornings before breakfast. If you have not heard of fasted cardio, you are missing out. This is one of my favourite things to help with fat loss. All it requires is no food or sugary drinks consumed before, and then doing low intensity steady state cardio (LISS) for 45-60 minutes. Be sure to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water and then go home to enjoy that delicious healthy breakfast. Rugging up in winter will help your body stay warm and you to work up a sweat. It is a win-win scenario, so what are you waiting for? Let’s go!

4) Plan, prepare, do. You need to write out some goals that are specific and achievable. Try to look for something other then just extrinsic goals but intrinsic ones too. Internal changes such as more energy, better sleep, higher libido and feeling happier are the best ways to track progress on your journey. So, it is important to include some of these in your goals. Of course, you can still choose to be a certain dress size or weight but remember for that to keep motivating you, you need to keep updating your goals and not get comfortable or complacent. That is why you should be including both types of motivators when writing out your goals.

5) Track measurements, weight and take photos. This is one I have done for so long. I will always recommend progress photos because even when the weight has not changed, you can put them side by side and still see a massive difference. Weight has its place on your health journey but is mostly an outdated source of progress. Muscle is denser than fat so you can be smaller, more toned and still weigh the same. Unaltered photos cannot lie about your change. Measurements are great to see how the way you are training is affecting your body and what changes first.

As you can see, there are so many different things you can start doing now, that will help you start to see results and be healthier before summer is here. Everyone’s fitness journey is different, and we all have different goals, so take what you can from these tips. Some will be great for you and others may not fit your current lifestyle.
