Witches' Brew
“The magic power of a witches’ brew is more a part of the literature and folklore of sorcery than of historical witchcraft” writes Rossell Hope Robbins in The Encyclopedia of Witchcraft & Demonology (1959). Witchcraft has changed a lot since the 1950s, let alone the Burning Times. The ways in which modern witches take part in magic is inspired by, but vastly different from, historical witchcraft.

Three weeks ago I watched movers pack up my apartment swaddling my belongings into reams of cream colored paper. Items emptied into cardboard boxes, taped up, and one by one carried out the front door and into the moving van. A few days later I loaded the remaining items in my car. Plants, a suitcase full of clothes and toiletries, boxes of keepsakes, blankets, and pillows (the important stuff) and I set off on a 1,720 mile journey to my new home in California. Three weeks ago I left Kansas City after calling it home for the past 11 years, leaving behind friends and moving further away from my family. The three day road trip was exciting and terrifying (was I going to be safe by myself for three days on the road?).

To my Celtic folk, magic wheeldiers, and pagans of all kinds Welcome! The Celtic SpiritPublished 3 years ago in LongevityWhich is Witch?
When we think of witches we generally think of a scary woman using animals and children for her spells. We see a grotesque green face covered in warts. What if I were to tell you that is not a witch at all? You probably wouldn't believe me, right? Bear with me and keep an open mind. I'm about to change your idea of witches forever.
Liv TannerPublished 3 years ago in LongevityThe Obsession with New Age Spiritual Bypassing
What is spiritual bypassing? The term "Spiritual Bypassing" was first introduced by Buddhist teacher John Welwood in the 1980's. To explain thoroughly, spiritual bypassing occurs when an individual becomes disillusioned using spirituality as a band-aid to disconnect from reality to create a "good vibes only" persona. When I first dove into spirituality I remember falling into this trap myself. I was following influencers who would preach "love and light" culture, making people believe that if they didn't exude happiness and peace at all times, on all fronts, that they were doing something wrong and in turn attracting "negative" events and situations into their life. This issue with this ideal is that, quite frankly, we are humans. In the human experience there are wide ranges of emotions, and wide ranges of experiences. These things can simply not be avoided. There will be times that we face loss, that we will grieve, we will feel anger, we will witness injustice, we will see things that need changing and we will recognize that the world around us is not "Good Vibes Only". If every human being throughout time used the spiritual bypassing mechanism, there would be no improvements in human rights, or equality, or even technological advances. If we all sat back and decided that everyone's life is spouting rainbows and roses, we would lose our ability to improve and to help one another and ourselves.
