I don’t know about you, but I suffer from bloating every day.

It was a lot worse before my hysterectomy.

Back then, my endometriosis was one of the main culprits of my never-ending bloated look.

It can become tough to handle when you add a few other things to the mix like food, stress, lack of sleep, and illness.

Using essential oils is part of my daily routine.

I burn them morning, noon and night.

I use them when I have sore muscles, massage and even on a wheat pack when the pain becomes too hard to manage.

Oils boost mood, increase energy and help memory too.

Certain oils work better for particular goals during the day.

For instance, lemon and any citrus smells are perfect in the mornings because they help invigorate your environment and mood.

It prepares me to work from home effectively.

Whereas, in the evening, calming oils like lavender, peppermint, and Yang yang help you to unwind and relax.

Perhaps it’s just me, but I LOVE essential oils. They have the power to transform my mood instantly.

It’s not unusual to use essential oils for getting rid of bloating, gas, and the general period cramp.

I’ve been doing it for years, using peppermint oil (and sometimes adding lavender in the evenings).

The heat of a wheat pack mixed with peppermint oil makes a difference.

The muscle cramping eases, and I find it easier to expel any trapped wind in my gut.

Peppermint oil is a natural antispasmodic — which means it relaxes intestinal spasm’s that may result from gas, food that hasn’t agreed with you and when you are stuffed after a carb Christmas dinner.

When you experience stomach upsets or cramps, drinking peppermint tea isn’t the best alternative.

You may feel too sick (or on the verge of vomiting). The added pressure of the fluid on an upset stomach doesn’t help.

Therefore, adding a heat pack to your abdomen brings much-needed cramping relief.

Unfortunately, I cannot give you any scientific data to back this theory up — it’s something I’ve discovered on my own in desperation.

I don’t like taking any drugs, and peppermint has helped me throughout my life. So naturally, I keep using it.

The following oils are great for bloating or any gas pain.

They include chamomile and ginger.

You might want to add them to your unique anti-bloating mix.

Here is my evening massage formula

  • 5 drops peppermint oil
  • 3 drops lavender oil
  • One tbs Almond oil (carrier oil)

Add onto abdomen, back or shoulders and rub in with hands or get a handheld massager.

My massage therapist recommended I use these particular massage techniques for the stomach during bloating, constipation, and general upset.

These movements performed with essential oils helps ease the pain and discomfort.

Here are some other bloating alternatives you should try

  • Going for a walk
  • Lowering your salt during that time of the month
  • Us a probiotic
  • Eat prebiotic foods
  • Skip the sugar or any overly sweet fruits as they can enhance bloating and wind because of fructose
  • Watch out for those sugar alternatives. They can cause a lot of stomach cramping.
  • A bland diet for a few days while you recover might be a good idea

It takes a lot of time and effort to tweak your diet accordingly.

However, after a bit of experimentation, you will be able to pinpoint the culprit foods and decide if you want to stop eating them for good — or eat less of them.

These little things can help ease bloating — especially during the time of your period (when you might not be able to get away with the effects of certain foods).

Key take away

Although there is no natural cure for bloating, you can only try your very best during tough times.

Essential oils aren’t going to cure bloating completely, but they provide relief from symptoms without the need for drugs (from my experience anyway).

If you tend to suffer from bloating a lot — it may be a good idea to speak with your doctor.

For instance, I had excruciatingly painful gut problems in 2020.

From my gastroenterologist’s examination, he pointed out I had a swollen cervix.

In 2022, it revealed a lot more severe disease within it.

That one thing was the culprit of my bloating.

It does pay to see a professional who will give you a proper examination and medical diagnosis.
