"No Water, No Life, No Blue, No Green" ~ Sylvia Earle

Sylvia Earle is an inspiring female oceanographer, and fellow explorer in The Explorers Club. Since meeting her in 2010 at UCSB Campbell Hall during an environmental lecture series, her mission in life has helped me become motivated and crystal clear in my own life's purpose. Sylvia's "Mission Blue" is rooted in her above statement, that without water, we would have no life on our precious planet. Sharing worldwide, she believes that, "The dynamism and vitality of all life on Earth owes itself to the ocean... As we commit ourselves today to respect planet Earth, let's remember that without blue, there is no green."

With that in mind, I ask myself what small actions, "ripples" can I do each day to help the blue and the green... be in harmony and back to a place of healing.

Here are a few of my ripples that will hopefully transform into "making waves" of inspiration for others, and eventually connecting us all into a sustainable future.

1. HOME: Eco-friendly Cleaning Products for Our Homes

Easy peasy, starting at home with your laundry, with NO MORE big thick plastic containers that are ending up in our land fills and oceans! One small step each of us can do in saving our lands, seas, vital ecosystems, water, and even our loved ones! Cool thing is, this laundry pod is safe, effective, kind to animals, and less expensive than the bigger plastic brands. The best part is they’re shipped to my door in plastic-free packaging. Hooray!

I've been using Dropps' various household "pods" products (laundry and dishwashing) for the last 9 months, and loving it! The above SEA video was created in support of what a small ripple can do!

2. BEACH: Awareness in discarded beach trash, ocean plastics, and saving the reefs!

Created an ongoing "Be' Kine Care Campaign" for educational outreach by designing signs and stickers, as well as being a guest speaking on local radio shows sharing about "saving our coral reefs," reef safe sunscreens, and other simple lifestyle choices. Healthy coral reefs are the most essential ecosystem needed on our planet, providing food for millions, protecting our coastlines, and helping to combat global warming. We have already lost over 50% of our coral reefs worldwide, and without these precious "animal and planet" habitats, humanity and life itself will become lost.

I've also been using my mermaid ambassadorship with Fin Fun Mermaid Tails by taking photos and filming under the sea waves, then posting on various social media channels the eco-actions we can all do! Here are a few examples!

Instagram post

To celebrate our ocean connections and being a "mermaid on a mission," I created this video of awareness as my "love letter" to our seas, as well as helping to spark "waves of making a difference": Believe in a Wonderful World!

What's amazing is that our planet is made up of 71% water, and 29% land mass, and we ourselves scientifically match the same proportional ratio in our bodies, especially as a child emerging from our mother's womb.

So one could say, we innately match our Mother Earth's design in order to understand and care for her, collectively! And when we do our best to protect our water existence while living on land, our ripples join with others in making waves of positive change! When you think about it, water comes to us and through us by clouds, rains, rivers, lakes, ocean, and marvelous masses of ice.

The last thing I did over the past 6 years, was become a vegan. I was a vegetarian for the past 35 years, and knowing that if I made a complete shift in my lifestyle choices, that would be the best thing for my health, as well as the planet I love so much. Choosing to walk as a vegan becomes my environmental footprint. I believe, "In saving our planet, we naturally save ourselves." I like to call them, leaving a "flipper" footprint! Aloha!

Leaving a flipper footprint!
