Start small

Hi,

I wanted to talk to you a little bit today about health. I am not an expert or professional, but I just wanted to share some insights from things I have learned.

As I went through my time of weight loss and getting into a better lifestyle the two BIGGEST things I learned are that you need Vision and Motivation. I had struggled with my weight from around my preteen years to when I got out of my teens and hit my twenties. I am the type of person that I need to see the finish line so to speak. I really won't put my full heart and energy into something unless I can see the result or reward. Once I see that reward, motivation comes pretty easily. Now I say that to say that not everyone is like me. However the principles still apply you just have to figure out how they apply to you.

Vision and Motivation, what do I mean by that? Vision; You have to find something to set your mind on or what you see in your mind. Now that doesn't mean that what you see in your mind will be exact, but you have to have something to focus on. For example for me, NOTHING motivated me at all except on day I was scrolling through a social media site and I saw this guy post a before and after photo of his face with the weight loss. When I saw that it was like something inside of me came alive. I thought to myself I see the results with my own eyes of him and if he could do it so could I. I knew quite a bit of health from high school classes and personal research, but didn't really know much. So, I soaked up as much information as I could from other people, online research, and etc. What I did with that is trial and error from capsules to exercises to diet changes and so on. One of the biggest things I learned was start small. Now before I get ahead of myself let me talk to you about motivation.

Once you find your vision or what you can set your mind on whether that be a result or a goal of some kind. Next, is your motivation. You need to have a drive inside of you almost like a fire inside. Now matter what you see with your physical eyes or what people tell you that they see you will not stop until you reach the goal that you have envisioned. Use that to fuel you even when you can't see the results. Now I am not going to be the one to say throw out your scales or completely change your diet or etc. I am just going to say this if it discourages you or takes away from that vision that you see don't utilize that source. If certain people discourage you, tune them out. If looking at the scales everyday discourages you, don't weigh yourself. One thing that helped me was my clothing size. That was a BIG motivator! I would weigh myself and saw the weight dropping and got a little excited, but when I would put on jeans that were getting too tight before and now they were too big. Shoot, I almost jumped right out of them because I was so excited. So, once you find a goal to set in your mind (vision) and then find motivation along the way the next step is to just start plain and simple.

Its that simple? Yes, the thing to do after that is take action. Like I stated previously, start out small. Now what do I mean by that? When I began this journey for myself I started of with little experiments and trials. Just to test the waters so to speak. I started by increasing my water intake as hard as that was... haha I was the type of person and still am that I prefer juice hardcore and some pops and I would drink water, but not nearly enough. So, each day I would try to drink a little bit more than I did the previous day and so on. Another thing I tried was parking farther away at stores and places I went so I would have to walk farther and put more exercise in. I would choose stairs over an elevator or escalator. You wouldn't think these little choices make much difference, but after a while of repetitive behavior they DO! Those little choices that you make compound and help the overall big picture.

So, in conclusion, the few steps I would try to help you with weight loss or simply living healthier is; Find vision for yourself something you can see in your mind, find things that motivate you if you struggle with motivation and discard anything that would try to take away your vision or discourage you, and take action by starting small (small steps or choices). I wish all of you the best of luck and hopefully here some good stories. Thank you for taking the time to read through this and if anyone has any questions or is interested in hearing more you can send me an email @ [email protected] just put "Vocal" or something like that in the heading.
