How to Train for a Marathon

An Overview of What It Takes to Run a Lengthy 42 Kilometers, or 26 Miles

Step 1: Choose how far you want to run.

As cool as it may seem to go out and run a full marathon, a smaller distance may be more suitable for you, especially if you have never run a marathon before. You can start off by choosing to run a 5km, 10km, or even a half marathon before choosing to run the full thing!

Step 2: Make a schedule.

Once you have decided how far you want to run, it is time to make a running schedule. It is recommended that you start training several months (three, in my opinion) before the actual marathon or whichever distance you choose to run. This is crucial to avoid injuries by rushing your training. This is why making a running schedule early on in your training is crucial, set out certain days and times where you can set aside time to run. Try to run at least twice a week.

Step 3: Change the diet.

In order to run a vast distance, you will need to change your diet. Some tips that I would recommend would be to have breakfast everyday, eat lots of vegetables, eat lean meat such as chicken and salmon, and consume lots of carbs, especially a few hours before a run such as pasta and fruits. You will need to increase the amount of protein you usually consume in order to maintain your muscle mass, which can be lost by too much running.

Step 4: Start the training.

In order to avoid injury and boredom of running, start by running small distances and slowly increase the distance you run every few runs. Before long, you will be running a full marathon. Once you are able to run the distance that you are trying to run, attempt to decrease the amount of time it takes you to run that distance by increasing the pace that you run at.

Step 5: Have fun!

Chances are that you chose to run this marathon voluntarily; this means that even if you are having doubts about the marathon, don't forget to have fun along the way. I admit, the training can and will get brutal. This doesn't mean that you have to stop. Grab your phone and your headphones, put on your favourite music, put your running face on, and enjoy the process. Believe me, it will be worth it when your cross that finish line! :)

Those are good advice for people who just want to start running, but if you want to complete a marathon - it's gonna take some elbow greece and consistency, as well as proper training(It took me like half a year to be ready to complete a half-marathon hosted by nearby running shop https://rununited.com/ ) and I can't imagine how much you gotta work to run a full one!
